Oh and I started a trail batch of mushrooms.....shiitake, pearl oyster, golden oyster and pink oyster. Not AP I know, but still pretty cool.

I am growing them in spent coffee ground from a local cafe.

It is the cold shock that does it  My wine caps were struggling all summer, and then, a freeze, and BAM! Mycelium out the wazoo.

a) Yes. Have used sea salt, pool salt, water softener salt. Just needs to be pure NaCl, no additives, detergents, etc.

b) I bet you could add the yabbies to the sump and cycle it just as fast as if you tried to seed it with the young aquarium water.

I've been wanting to grow mushrooms other than the bog standard ones for a while now, where did you get inoculated grain? Quinoa is easy to identify, the grains have a little white 'thread' that wraps around it. Tasty stuff too. ;)

Looks good!

Thanks J.B. :thumbleft:

I'm definitely going to cycle with my yabbies. Some in the sump, and in the FT. Tough little buggers, so they should be fine. I don't think I am going to add any fish for a few months, until I am confident that I am capable of giving them the best life they could have. 8)

Oh, and if you want any extra pics of the apple set-up, let me know. I'll PM you, so I don't clutter up this forum with too many dirt garden pics.... :-

They are 50g packets from Bunnings- found near the seeds. Definitely looks like they use Quinoa :) After I trial these, I have seen some other varieties on Ebay that look cool.....mmmmm morels.....

Oh cool thank you, it's been a while since I've been to the seed aisle in Bunnings, I'll have to check it out next time I'm in.

So, weather is much more palitable today :D Currently 20.1C (68F) with a max of 29C expected. I can breathe again!

And build :) So I am going to frame my GBs today.

Oh, and I apologise if I annoyed anyone here over the last few days :shifty: It was too hot to do much around here, so I may have sat on the laptop under the airconditioner on the forum for way too many hours........

TSalt, If you have any of the initial heading cuts, and training the first set of the arms onto the cordons, that would be awesome! I know you did apples; but pears and pomegranates for the wife should not be much different given the whips they come as. Might try figs on the upper tiers of the chicken fence. Have 40 or so cuttings I am rooting at the moment.

Make any progress on the grow beds?

Not yet :( We had some crazy weather, tornado-ish winds, so much damage was sustained that 90,000 homes were without power for days. Some are still without power 4 days later. Not us, we thankfully had no issues, but lots of people in the eastern side of the city were very badly hit.

Hope all the APers had backup systems

I stayed inside after weighting everything down, and hoped for the best. Our market umbrella flew into our rosemary bush....but other than that, we were unscathed.

I have to take a few days away from AP to throw my 9yr old the birthday party to end all birthday party's, :geek: but I have everything sitting here and it is driving me insane!!!!!!!!

Just. Want. To. Build. It. Now.

Sooooo It has been a month since my last confession...

I have been super busy co-ordinating the Fete at my kids school (I am an event co-ordininator in my non-AP time). and have not had any spare AP time. The Fete is over on March 15th....so I will be back to my build after that.

I know y'all missed me :geek:

I hope everyone has been well, and triumphant in their own AP adventures. I will catch up on the hundreds of threads I have missed over the last four weeks.....after March 15th ends, and my normal life resumes :-P

Hah, I just came on now to search for this thread and post to see how you were, I've noticed you have been MIA and was wondering how you were getting along. Good to hear from you, I hope the fete goes well. Bring on March 15 and more AP'ing!

 I am a bad aquaponiod....I have had my system components for almost two years now, and am no further along in my build.

Life happened. Lots of messy, happy, sad, up/down, crazy life...but no aquaponics. I separated from my husband, and all the 'life' that goes along with that change meant that aquaponics went on the back-burner for a while. Well, a long while. Well, until now :D

This is the spring! This is the spring I will make it all come together. I have come back to the forum for refresher course on all-things-aquaponics, so that I can get this baby up and running.

To keep me busy of my aqua-break, I have toiled in the dirt garden, added a pretty little flock of chickens (3 Light Sussex bantams, 2 dark barred Plymouth Rock bantams and 2 Japanese bantams) to my life, and busied myself with kids, cat, dog, worm farm etc etc.

Please be gentle with me as I ease my way back into the forumy fold

I have done a bit of looking around, and you have all come along so well with your systems! Well done, actually productive people! :notworthy:
