I am seriously confused :?

I have seen so much literature that states tomato and peppers hate DWC, yet I am finding evidence of tomato plants doing well in DWC.

My view was that DWC was for leafy greens, and GB's are fore long term stem plants.

I suppose my Question is; Is there a difference in performance between the two systems (using tomato and lettuce for comparison), and what is the pull or limiting factors to lean either way?

Thanks
Clayton

DWC is really good for small plants that are harvest whole or nearly whole. The labour involved in planting and harvesting such plants in DWC is pretty minimal. Planting lots o lettuce and the like in gravel can be annoying. While many people have had good results gettings seeds to grow directly in media its always been a bit hit or miss for me.

DWC can be used to grow almost any plant you like but big plants need support. Check out Ryan's Chatterson farm thread to see how versatile DWC can be.

Thanks Stuart

Are you aware of any performance or yield differences between the two?

Not that have been rigorously confirmed through systematic investigation.

For BYAP purposes system performance is often more affected by the experience of the operator than a particular growing component.
