Look HERE for some info Steve put together on nitrobacter and nitromonos PH requirements. Looks like the PH you have will be okay for the bacteria processes - so you just need to find out what affect it will have on your fish.

Thanks VB.
Just what I needed.
I have never collected rain water because water is so abundant here and the well meets all my needs. I have a big barn. Collecting rain from that roof would be a lot of water. Interesting idea. The rain runs a little acid here, which would be perfect. I am going to consider it. Thanks.

Imagine living in a place where there was that much rain...... But if you had our state Gov they would find a way to stuff it up, then put a charge on it...

Here are pics of one of the split plants. Hasn't died - maybe it will still do okay. Only time will tell. Yet again I will take one for the team .

The wound has healed really quickly. I don't think infection is likely to be an issue in this instance.

OK... have done that before (using sellotape) with tomato plants when I've accidently broken stems/runners....

Never caused a problem and the plants have grown on quite successfully...

Even those which have been almost totally severed.

plants can be amasing, i was checking out my basil today (nothing elese to do to the AP after ripping out the tommies (no time to get more seedlings until later today) and saw that one stalk has snapped, it cant have been haning in on by more than 1/10th of its original stem, but was still green and growing (it had snapped a while ago judging by the browness around the severed parts................

cool, then photo helped with understanding that. Axl thought the stalk had split right in two, with a hole through the middle, but it should grow okay (my *vast* cucumber growing experience tells me this  ), it still looks healthy enough VB :)

Steve - my basil has several areas the same as you describe. The constant supply of water in AP would significantly help plants to survive in this type of situation, as well as the one that my cucumber is in.

ROZ - you are essentially grafting the tomato back onto itself - no compatability issues :-).

Jaymie - should I go split in in half just for fun
