Hi, I'm Baz from Australia.

I'm new to aquaponics and thought I'd join and see what else people are doing gout there.

I've got my system up and running and starting the ammonia cycle thing, just not sure how many ppm's I'm meant to be starting off with so I'll just have a poke around the forum and see what everyone has success with and replicate that I guess.

Here are some pics of what I've got so far, looking to add a floating raft system soon and put yabbies in the bottom of that too.

Cheers,
Baz.

Hi Baz, welcome to the forum.

Can you explain your system layout because its a little confusing and looks as though you may have been put on the wrong track a bit sorry.

Seems you have incorporated a sump and a radial flow filter when quite frankly you could be pumping straight from the fish tank to the brow bed and return again. Added pipes and components that really aren't required.

So the ft drains into the filter and into the sump.

The sump is pumped into the gb and the rest goes into the ft for recirculation.

The overflow is on the far right of the last pic and that drains into the sump if the filter is blocked for any random crazy reason. More of a safety feature than anything else.

Welcome,

looks like you put a lot of effort into that Baz, very elaborate.

do you have a siphon in the GB or is it constant flood?

Thanks Slowboat,

It's siphon through 25mm @ 5 cycles per hour.
