Search function broke so sorry for posting basic question..

I've been in a long struggle with buffering my pH which seems to nosedive no matter what I do. Currently ~6.

I just tested kH and gH for first time and my kH is only 1. My tap water kH which I use to top system off is 2. I know a higher kH can help buffer against pH swings but don't know much else.

Can someone point me in direction of good resource on role of kH and gH in aquaponics? Not sure what optimal levels are, what I can try to raise kH, what other roles do kH and gH play other than stabilizing pH, will raising kH actually raise pH, etc...

Any info/thread/link appreciated.
