You could have given cookie higher marks. There are very few forum members who have a good understanding of the basic needs of the system or how it works, and he's using some horrible taptalk thing.

Seriously though I did think the explanation was very well done.

TCLynx the off grid mineralization tank idea is a very great one. Actually I tried that as well. what I found out is that when u introduced aeration into the sludge, like in a day period your nitrates reading can shoot to over 160ppm in the mineralization tank. and I really still believe is not howmuch nutrients u have in your system but its how balance the nutrients within the system is. What I also found out is to conteract this problem within the mineralization tank is intermittent aeration peroids where u turn the air on and off in the system give a better product, but mind u nitrates bubbles off very quickly. like is a couple of hours off air and the system can go anoxic very fast. And I'm a very lazy person to I incorporate it inline onto my system so I don't need to tinker with air.

Sleepe thanks for the confession I too notice to effect with my DYI inline pvc filter. once water is flowing thru the, no matter how clog they get even when the flow just trickle out I don't get any scent. but the day the flow stops, like if there is a power failure, is the day I get heavy rotten egg scent.

Well I was saying this thread reminded me of how much I missed the forum, you guys are the greatest :]

Sleepe: Reagrds the grwo methods thanks for the clarification, and I agree that bubble ponics is basically just DWC with good aeration, which DWC should have. Howver, we can use all hydro methods in Ap so if it's practically feasible, cost, space, etc., then why not use the best method only?

TCL: I agree offline "mineralization" of solids is the best idea then adding back to the system, but we're not all a force of nature such as yourself so the lazy man cringes from the work

Cookie: The paper I read by Dr. Leonard, if I remember his name correctly, that quoted the UVI nets, they said they were left in 1 week to 2 for leafy veggies and about a month for tomatoes and other nutrient heavy veggies. Regarding the stink in the filter, I've planned that i will put some aeration in mine, will hurt the gravity sedimentation but will help mineralization. Plus if there is a power failure I told her the pump can be turned off but keep the air on so the UPS can handle the 35W air blower and everything should stay happy. At least that is the plan.

abdul: why do we use clarifier? Because its effecient in removing heavy suspected solids with the help of gravity, slow water velocity within clarifier and long retention time. its as favor by the lazy people like ourself, mind u I'm very lazy, to simply open a tap and the solids come gushing out. but interms of mineralization, we are short circuiting the process. the reason system doesn’t get affect much because they compensate for this by increasing their daily feed rate. this only favor systems thats focusing on fish growth. but an advantage of retaining solids properly within your system is that your daily feed requirements actually decrease over time. it good for ppl that lookin at overall cost and forcusing on vege growth. but its bad for ppl that's lookin for overall fish growth because you become limited mainly by increasing nitrite levels. but ammonia constantly stays at zero nevertheless. if u like I can explain my inline mineralization tank for u.

I dont think I could have done without a clarifier in my DWC layout, its a great final polisher for beautiful root condition and health. You explain things well Cookie and its a nice tune to hear on the forum lately, I personally would enjoy hearing about your inline mineralisation tank and compare it to my own notes.

Charlie, thanks in advance..? haa haa that's my line. o well I can share well I never made a system thread in my life but I feel it time to make one now. about the mineralization tank I'll go indepth tomorrow I'm actually in work atm but I love this forum so much I'm like 100ft in elevation sitting on a grating looking at ppls system on this place. hopefully I don't get caught by my senior cus I'm on my cellular phone... but back to the story at hand. it all about water direction and flowrate. the same RFF filter can be converted actually I converted my RFF filter. basically the inlet piping thats enters the filter which directs the water to the top of the filter,

I remove the upcoming pvc at the elbow and directed to flow to the base of the filter instead, flow enters about 2 inches from the base. I removed the RFF redirectional pipe and the stuff the entire filter with discarded nylon fishing nets, I got them free actually on the side of the road free, the water the exits the top of the filter as normal but must pass thru the filter medium first. I'm sure u are familiar with this filter concept but the clearance space at the base of the filter is important to evenly display the flow within the filter. the waste gets trap in the filter medium, but because the vessel I use to make the filter is wide and tall even with high pump flowrates the water velocity within the filter is extremely low so even if it 100% saturated with solids there will be minimal pressure drop across the filter hence retaining most of your water flowrates.

Yea I too would love to hear about it, but some of the pictures aren't showing for me and I"m sorry but I just don't understand what's happening :/

My only reason for not mineralizing off line and adding to the GB is that I won't be here to do it, have to minimize tasks for mum so when I come I handle the big maintenance stuff.

pics not loading? um I got to start using a computer from now on. well I'll try to draw a side view of the filter tomorrow. may even start my system thread as well, experimental system that is only DWC GB with tomatoes and sweet peppers. love to push the limits.
