When I changed the name, I meant political as in a lot of people disagreeing, not elections and such.

I like to combine my mechanical filtration with my plant growing space for small to medium (even large backyard scale) systems. Seems silly to have separate filtration units that require additional maintenance that are not also being used to grow plants. I suppose the only time I might say on a Micro scale, not to bother with it is if you already have the aquarium filtration set up and don't want to bother with shelving strong enough to hold a heavy media bed and are not going to want to rinse that media inside an apartment kitchen or bathroom :flower:

Otherwise, Media is just simple and I'll always recommend it for a first time system for people who don't really know yet what they want and are really looking for the least number of parts to get a system going with the shortest instruction sheet so to speak.

Once people learn that, they are likely going to be able to move on and decide if they want a hybred system or to experiment with other stuff and don't really need some one else to tell them what to do anyway.

I agree, Except say in my case, where i am surrounded by trees and they get into my beds too much, I also have an area that sees very little sun, except mid summer. I put a biofilter in that area and removed by growbed altogether, going to try it as a trout run this year.
The biofilter i setup should be easier to clean (flush out) than the growbed too.

I would like to vote (event though we are not having an election) that the word media be replaced by the acronym GBF (Grow Bed Filler).
Some probably find the word media confusing and end up by filling their GB's with Medes, newspapers, TV sets (especially CRT's), or parts of the human body.

some of the slightly different terms are confusing and kind of annoying.

I.E. when people call constant flood - constant flow or DWC changes to DWB.

Flood and flow are very different things.

I'd find the link to the discussion but the search function doesn't seem to be working.

Well I would have preferred GBH; but grow bed hurties would have only made sense to my granddaughter .

Yav, took me a while to work out that CF now means Constant Flood (although I always thought that first use should stay).
