Waitaminute... I think you're talking over your head there.

First of all, in addition to waste oil, biodiesel production can be produced from a range of waste sources such as wheat chaff, sugarcane bagasse, abattoir waste animal fat, forestry residues and urban wastes diverted from landfill. A huge industry is opening up here in Australia.

You're also incorrect on the palm oil point. Algae is far more productive, and that's the direction the industry is now moving towards:

Yavimaya, I think that your last update on steam power must have been somewhere around the beginning of the 20th century. Let me fill you in on a development happening right now in Fla. USA. The company name is Cyclone Power Technologies and has developed a pretty efficient steam engine that can run on practically any kind of fuel.
Jay Leno has a garage full of steam powered cars and posts regular video's on YouTube about them. These cars are from around the beginning of the 20th century and did certainly not carry 100's of liters of water with them.
There are many new developments in steam driven engines, just look around.
Although not really on steam, a Stirling Engine is far more efficient than IC engines. Heck, it's even the most energy efficient type of engine. I think you're way over your head here.
The reason for IC prevailing over steam was not efficiency but very cheap oil and the advantage of IC over steam that it would start instantly and therefor could be used at any convenience immediately. It's not always the best technology that prevails but mostly the ones that makes the most money for its pushers (that commonly also have the biggest mouths!) and a good portion of stupid luck. Windows is an excellent example of inferior crap sold as the golden goose by a company that is mainly populated with marketeers, not software engineers and knowledgeable people in that field. It's popularity has nothing to do with quality, but everything with easy to hack and copy for free.

I suggest you study a bit more about these subjects before making premature assumptions and putting them as facts in the world.

Did you know that steam turbines are making your electricity? Even nuclear plants drive steam turbines to generate electricity, IC generators are only used as a backup or in smaller scale set ups. Do you really think that electricity companies would use steam if IC is more efficient (and therefor cheaper)?

Man, I could go on and on. But does it make people more aware or do you just sip your tea and move on to the next topic?

lol, maybe you know engines but maybe you should take your own advice when choosing an analogy. MS was number one because IBM chose it as the OS for it's PC and IBM beat mac because of clones, competition and price point. It had little to do with sales, marketing... or microsoft

Or because Microsoft was available... Apple was not interested in sharing, and AT&T had UNIX tied up pretty tight... The OS that Bill Gates stole was just at the right place at the right time. From a robustness standpoint, AS400 is even a better operating system. You don't see enterprises running MS-DOS anymore, but you certainly see AS400. As much as my company tries to get away from it, it just works.

Just thought I'd bring commercial AP into this. You people bemoaning marketers. Making something or growing something is often the easy bit. Where innovators and business developers really need skills is in marketing.

Yea, i did know that, i covered it in an earlier post actually.

You are right, they didnt carry "hundreds" of litres of water, but they did have to refill constantly and then wait for pressure again.... to say steam isnt too cumbersome and inefficient and that IC isnt more efficient in that situation, just because electricity generators use it is just plain silly and totally off argument.

Yes!! Producing the biomass is the easy part, especially if you have sound knowledge and experience doing so. Moving the product is a whole other story!!

Don't worry, as a former MCSE I know more than enough about their 'success story'. And...that it underlines my point of the factor of pure stupid luck being responsible for a technology to dominate. So, where was my analogy flawed?

Cars with IC have to refilled constantly, too. And if you refill in time your water, you don't have to wait for pressure again.

And, you won't win an argument by highlighting one aspect of the discussion and trying to shoot it down. It's cheap, short sighted and actually really silly and ignorant. Check the facts about present state of steam and then come back and see where your arguments hold ground.
