HI I am very new to this but super interested and drawing my system out on paper first. I am handy, smart and mechanical so the system is not a problem. However I need to know some important basics from the pros.
I live in Michigan and lately it's been very very cold. -0 some days. I am building a 30 x 40 green house of sorts and I think I need an in ground fiber glass pool that I will pray in myself and make it about 6 plus ft deep to keep the proper temperatures in our supper cold months and hot months so I do not need a heater except for an emergency to keep the right temp and of course a sump pump and filter etc.

Am I thinking along the right lines?

burying the tank will help, but growbeds are major heat sinks, and the surface of the water is is well..
if you have room, a wall of black tanks can help retain heat..
what kind of fish will you use? yellow perch would be a good choice as they handle the cold weather quite well.. bluegill are good but slow growers

What Keith said, if you never moved the water a in ground tank can hold temp great, but the second you start pumping it you get heat loss. Especially through the grow beds. You really need to pick a fish that can handle the temps in your area.
