trout and silvers can be done. my silvers were about 100mm when i put my trout in. just got to feed the trout first and then feed them again 20 mins later, this insures they will not eat the silvers food when you put them in.
I did find that when the trout were about 200mm they bugged the daylights out of the SP.

looking good, like the vids

Really enjoy your vid's Brett.

I too am having luck feeding my SP through winter with yabbie tails and cheap frozen prawn.

p.s. I have 5 trout in with my SP and so far so good. Mind you most of the SP are over 150mm.

Thanks for the update :thumbright:

Thanks, I would like to put trout in but the SP's I think are too small. Hopefully in the not too distant future I can do an expansion and add in a 2nd tank. That way over winter we can keep some trout.

Yea Im also leaning towards a second smaller tank I can shove th SP in over winter. Its really the only fail safe way.

Im constantly heading out and checking on things. Its not a comfortable feeling.

Yes still around.
Life has been busy with a 20 month old. Not sure what I did with all the time I used to have?

The system has been ticking along nicely, managed to get all the silvers through winter. They must have eaten a couple of kilos of lettuce.

Did just loose a couple when I started to feed them properly again, I think the food was too old so have bought some fresh food and they are eating well as the weather is warming up.

Will try to get a video up shortly, it's been awhile.

Hi,
It has been awhile since I last posted anything.

Finally got round to doing a new video of the place.

As I mentioned in the video did loose 4 SP's the other week, same thing happened this time last year. I put it down to old food, but this year I made sure I new food as the weather warmed up.

The only thing I can put it down too was a sudden drop in water temp and me still feeding them?

The other fish that did have the white spot seemed to have cleared up.
Now that that the water temp has picked back up to 18 degrees I will start to feed them slowly over the next few days.

They have grown pretty big and they have even put on some size over winter. I feed them lettuce over the colder months and a large handful only lasts a day or two.

Will try to keep the videos coming.

Hi,
Last Monday I picked up 5 new Sp's and 3 trout from a friend who's system is getting too hot for them.
My system seems to cooler over summer than hers

Plus I had been talking about putting some trout in with the SP's as I had heard from another Dean at Grow Fresh Aquaponics (whom I bought the system from) that he had some customers running trout and SP's together with out any problems.

So:
1. Hopefully I can keep then over summer?
2. They will get along wight the SP's

If they do get along I will be adding some fingerling trout next year to the system.

Would be nice to get a feed of fish from the AP system each year.

Will keep you up-dated on how it goes.

Video up-date about adding the trout.

Life is finally getting back to normal so will try to get monthly up-dates out.

How old is that grape vine, and is it in dirt or AP?

Also looking forward to how your trout+silver experiment goes. Appreciate the progress updates. Last person I saw try it (Charlie) killed his trout before he could find out results. Lol.

Ive run trout with my SP 2 years in a row and havnt lost any to canabilism. I did loose a few trout this past season due to other issues, maybe that where you are confused DrLuke? Or maybe thats what your meant... either way yes, I have successfully grown trout out from fingerling to plate with my SP and yabbies.

That's good to hear running trout with SPs can work.
I did lose the one with the damage on the tail, looks as if his friends weren't that friendly.

I did take a photo and will do an update next week.

Not used to the fish attacking each other, SPs are very civilized. No so trout.

DrLuke, the grape is in the ground, wish I had an AP system big enough to take a grape vine.
