I think the side shoots that Charlie refers to as suckers are actually more correctly referred to as lateral shoots, or just laterals. In botany/horticulture, the term sucker I believe more correctly refers to a shoot growing up from the base of a tree or other plant, normally coming from a root and often at some distance from the main stem.

The armpit term is classic though PJ, do you think that would make it in to the botanic terms? Love your explanations Charlie :)

Haha, yes, Charlie's armpit reference had me chuckling, Faye, but it is a bloody good description.

Charlie, I also particularly liked your 'keep robbing the suckers' terminology. At the rate you're going, the BYAP site may need to institute a 'Glossary of Charlie's Terms' to enable the rest of us to keep up with you!

I'm all for a glossary of all terms anyway.
When you are just starting out it is almost like a new language.

Unfortunately due to my poor eductation I often find myself bending the english language to get my point across.

Funny, you come across as extremely intelligent on this end mate... Must be that damn accent ;)

I think your pruning tips are great. From there you really just get into tricks for specific varieties (cluster pruning, harvesting intervals, grafting... Ok ill stop)

Ill think you're going to do great with your new build/farm.

Nice looking tomatoes and the pepper as well Charlie. Looks like you'll be busy roasting tomatoes pretty soon.

Cheers

Yea we have a fridge full of them, been looking for a good relish recipe if anyone cares to share. I came across a thread over at BYF forum about using a product called Ezy-sauce, has anyone used this?

No excuse's , get cooking Charlie...

The ksaoundi terrific , can be used in a curry base , the others are all time tested and proven performers .

Don't bother with "ezy-sauce" from the makers of jam-setter use good ingredients and follow the recipe and cook it out properly.
1 other tip , don't plant so many bloody tomatoes :thumbright:

Cheers

don't store tomatoes in the fridge.. if they're ripe, layer them in newspapers on a shelf or box that you can cover
if they're not quite ripe, a day or two on a window sill with some sun and you're good to go
