Thanks Ronmaggi. Planning on adding 2 more growbeds soon one will be media based the other a deep water bed. Also this will be our first summer in the greenhouse aquaponics in Louisiana. I'm ordering a shade cloth and adding a second blower since the air temp inside has been 110 the past few days with outside temp @ 95.

I'm not sure if this has been covered or not but here is something I learned recently by visiting a university closeby that has an aquaponics system set up.

Im sure most of you know this but apparently nitrogen is one of the main things plants need to grow their foliage, however it limits the amount of produce produced from vegetable plants because they are trying to grow more foliage than veggies.

My question would be if you were to add a grow bed with only plants that give off lots of foliage, or even simply a bed of grass in clay substrate, would this take more nitrogen out before it reaches the veggie plants, allowing them to produce more veggies? or would the bigger grass bed or similar take all the other nutrients out as well ?

Just a thought..

Pete

Aggressive pruning will help the plants fruit. Also, things like chard and basil are best if they don't fruit.

WOW - you have a really beautiful system going. You have obviously put a lot of work into it (with a little help from wife & son). I live up in Live Oak and would love to come see it if you a still in the area. Would love to "pick your brain" about getting a system up and running at our place.
