Yep, I'm afraid that the local suppliers around perth can be a bit hit and miss sometimes... I have heard bad stories about every one of them..

last year my barra from GP had ICH, I got rid of it and didnt lose any though.. but I got it early and salted pretty hard.

Pretty sure I read somewhere that GP does not salt their tanks at all, got me buggered why, last time I was there i saw goldfish wich ICH in a tank with a bunch of other goldies all for sale.

they really need to lift their game

You might be lucky with the heat wave we have just entered into.
To control without aquarium treatment you require water above 30 degrees and salt.
Make sure there is plenty of air in the tank.
Don't try to feed them anything.

Ich causes a slime layer to form over the gills of the fish, making it difficult to breath.
The higher temperatures reduces how much DO you can get into the water... making it difficult to breath.

Ich has been found to withstand salt concentrations up to 5ppt, so you need 6ppt minimum.

I would say the ones covered in white spots like your 4th photo aren't going to make it.
Unfortunately Ich is protected by the fish slime coat while it is embedded on the fish, it is during the free swimming stage that they can be killed, meaning severely infected fish more than likely don't have a chance.

Good luck.
Yet another GP horror story... :(

Thanks for the advise, lost the first one today second one any minute now, i may take out the worst tomorrow and add even more salt, water temp rose to 25.3 today

There isn't much you can do now.
If you want to borrow a UV steriliser let me know, but its no good until they are at free swimming stage

so is it a case of letting it progress to the point it starts dropping off the fish? any idea how long, also won't the salt kill it at the free swimming stage? I think I'm roughly at 7ppt of salt now

thanks

I cant remember the time lines of Ich, but at that temp the cycle would probably be around 2 weeks.
The parasitic stage is only around 4 days normally.
Hopefully they die when the fall off the fish, because if they get to their next life stage they split into thousands of free swimmers and look for hosts.

You need to keep the tank salted for atleast 2 life cycles, so atleast 4 weeks.
Also, when a fish dies they will all release at once, they don't need to be mature.
So make sure you pull a dead fish out quick.

The salt should kill it at free swimming stage, the UV can help, but for AP I don't think it would be as effective.

And you have to keep the temp at those levels 24/7, your probably cooling right off at night time..

I think the night time temp may be about 21, got up to nearly 28 during the day and thats with the tank being completely under cover.

Lost 2 more today, 7 so far, I'm hoping for no deaths tomorrow, the rest are quietly sat at the bottom not swimming at the surface like the others were…

If I were to loose them all, along as I keep the salt level where it is would it be safe to restock?

thanks

They can only live a couple of days without a host.
By now you should be over the worst of it though.

If you do lose them all, I would wait 2 weeks before stocking, it wont hurt the plants and atleast you know the fish should be right.

Good luck :)
