Looking for people in NW Florida that are currently doing aquaponics. I sure would like to see your setup and ask 1000 questions. I can bring the beer .... all you can drink. :-) Or I can help with labor. Or both. :-)

We are building a 20x52 high-tunnel hoophouse and we're trying to learn everything we can.

I am in North West Fl. And have been cycling for 10 weeks. 4 half barrel GB's and 300 gal. FT. Grow Beds have 3/4 drain and 2 inch bell siphons. I am new to this so I am learning all I can from anyone I can. I have 28 feeder goldfish and one channel catfish. The GB's are inside the 12 x 12 green house and the fish tank is out side. Tomatoes are doing good and flowering but a bit spindly, pole beans are all good, broccoli up slow but getting there, one coffee plant same size as when we started, lettuce did OK the first round but I cut it back to much and had to start over it is starting to get up now.
By biggest problem is pest. holes in every thing except tomatoes, they have small worms i think ? leaves fold together and turn gray and then brown I peel them apart and find a small worm or caterpillar.

Would like to find someone in my area that knows more or I can learn with. I will be getting some cat fish soon and another 200 gal tank. Like everyone I want more production less pest. I am a carpenter for 25 years and love to find free thing to re-purpose.

If anyone is interested contact me at 25six-3nine4-zero 1 seven 3

Since pesticides are a no no in AP systems we should be able to control our pest problems with (sp) demasicus earth food grade products. The food grade version can be purchased online or at most feed stores I have 4 gallons at the house and use it in my garden and I put it in the bedding for my pigs and rabbits. It keeps all the unwanted bugs away and if you want to eat/drink it it's supposed to be healthy.

I'm getting ready to build a system in Jay Florida this fall.

Dipel is a go in AP. By it in the powder form, and try to get an OMRI certified product. Then your plants will be better.

Bill of Pace, Florida here.

I the process of getting my tanks together. IBCs cut and stand pipe attached. I will be making my Bell Valves this weekend and maybe getting the river rock that I will use for media. This is my first attempt at aquaponics and have two IBCs to start with. I want to make this as much a solar powered project as I cheaply can. I will start with a 12 by 15 space and it may end up being quite a bit longer depending on how successful it is. If I can be of assistance with as little as I know about this hobby please let me know!

Great to find more than one person close by. I have a thread in member systems area. I finished the footer for my greenhouse this weekend. Hoping to bury my two FTs this week and get my GBs finished and in their final resting places soon. Keep me posted on your progress. Would like to exchange ideas.

Found a place where I can get pea gravel for $14 plus tax per ton. And it's only 8 miles from the house. Tho to fill my grow beds and cover the floor of my greenhouse it will take about 7 tons. Hopefully I can borrow my buddies dump trailer. Will still take a couple loads due to weight but that's tough to beat. Considering the delivery charge would be double the cost of the material.

Hey if you ever decide to escape the cold of North Florida, come on down and check us out on the Southeast coast in Hollywood. We have one shade house up and running utilizing DWC, NFT, and constant flow and another under construction right now

You can safely use Bt in your aquaponics system for the chewing caterpillars and army worms. It is a bacteria that will kill the pest but not harm your fish. We have used it with great success

Commonly known as Dipel. Bacilus Thuringiensis is a bacteria that affects caterpillars and grub worms only. That means that it is safe to use around fish, people, pets and other beneficial insects.

Got my system or at least half of it up and running. Take a look at my thread.

Another hair brained idea at my house.
