I started Aquaponics about a year ago .it meant clearing llandi trees from side of Garage ,part of a sunken garden .To level ground I used 8 tons of sub soil ,then hard core for path ,also to create a small grow bed for flower and vegetables ,these are photographs for reference .easier to keep photos on this web site, all in one place first thing I kept tomatoes by whickering them ,a system where as they need watering every three days ,in doing so I came across Aquaponics site decided to have a go .I was in Canada and acquired a book written by this web site ,and just followed instructions ,Firstly safety in building C H O P system ,making the ground safe by hard core properly tampered then cemented paving slabs ,good base to work on ,as mentioned imagine a system slowly tilting falling ,the consequences ,just doesn't bear thinking about. Then I bought three Topes .importantly they are black ,saves painting money and time ,worth looking into .Concerning stands have metal frames again for safety 1000 litre fish tank weighs about a ton ,now in the process of making sub tank which will be properly insulated to maintain water temperature. Reference .cut down tope to make sump tank, ,working out how to insulate tank ,acquired a material called Space save blanket, just lay under tank, then surround with plywood ,paint black, fix plywood first lay insulating material then tank make good top. my job.

Started to furnish sub tank insulate .taking quite some time, but hopefully getting it right I used pipe clips to secure wooden frame easier than drilling.

Great looking setup John, how low will your temperatures drop too?

I plan to put fish tank by the side of greenhouse ,the grow beds plan to use calour greenhouse heater ,keep TEMPERATURE ABOUT 15 DEGREES in greenhouse ,INSULATE sub tank also fish tank ,hope to provide heat from greenhouse to keep temperature moderate .I have no figures on this ,but when system is up and running I will post on Forum .I wonder if any other members have information on this ,Reason I will keep tem at about 15 degrees in greenhouse simply to grow spring type crops ,Lettuce etc. during winter ,besides the C H O P system I am building ,like to build a pipe system to grow tomatoes red peppers ,

Framing up sub tank, used saddle clips ,I found them quite good ,at least you can adjust to square frame .Drilling and bolting I found quite hard at least you save time ,using clips size of clips 15 mn , next thing is to insulate Tank just a picture of clip .information very little ,but might help somebody

Very nice! I would really like to have a greenhouse to control (rule-out) outside contamination and pests. Maybe soon... I just don't have the money now.

Well getting on with sub tank lagged by rapping space blanket material ,sealing with polythene ,painted top coat .all that remains is to make good top and sides ,has been a long weekend working on project ,
