Sounds interesting. I like the idea of passing the solids out to the plant sump. Looks like the filter media is pretty far from where it could block up and need frequent cleaning (unless the solids can flow out of the plant sump).

Yeah I think that's the theory, hopefully just biofilm building up in there. I guess something around the plant sump pump could keep them from going back to the FT or something.

Anyway it's really freeing cold out ATM, getting cabin fever.

Made some progress yesterday after the rain finally passed. Hope to get the plastic on, tomorrow will be much warmer.

Looking forward to know more about how your filtration contraption works.

Its kind of hard to understand what exactly you are trying to improve over more simple methods like the one you had in your diagram, where you would just direct the solids to a media filled GB. What would be the benefit of a digestor?

or are you not going to use a media filled GB anymore?

Shouldn't the sump ideally be the cleaner water?

I'm sorry I'm just a bit confused.

Almost there and looking good - get anything you need inside that won't fit through the door in, before you hang the plastic.

Haha too late d'oh! The door is big enough for what I plan to put in there - stock tanks fit through on their sides for example.

Got the plastic all on, almost all the furring strips before it sees wind. I think with the furring strips on it will be OK for blizzards and hurricanes, we will see.

This will be up for about the next six months, until the pool re-opens in late May. Then I will take it all down for the Summer. Total spent was say $230 or so? I feel truly blessed to have the porch to build on and that it gets plenty of sunlight this time of year.

Hooked up the pipes two different ways, used section of 3/4" dowel to firm up the ends for the screws. The pipes on the long wall go into bore holes, the shorter wall they are screwed up into the stud.

Hey chinampaMan!

I am to the point in my AP journey where I hesitate to buy gravel because it is so heavy and permanent, where I have had to take down my system and re-build it differently every year because Winter kills everything. I was very close to pulling the trigger on getting maybe 3 yards of pea gravel for about $100, and I was going to use that for the biofilter, but if you're not growing in it why not instead just get some matting off of Amazon? I am not OK yet with making big gravel beds on the edges of the greenhouse, but it may still end up that way. The edges of the porch ore pretty ideal for low gravel beds on the concrete as thermal mass and growing area. But for now I continue to resist. Some day I will make a big heavy permanent setup with large gravel beds but it won't be here, because this needs to be taken down in the late Spring anyway.

Aah, I see. Thanks for clarifying that much. Its just that I got carried away with the gabions thing...

Does anyone know of an aquaponic or maybe HP system that has used them?

Do you mean gabions? I'd like to see that too. I know what I would do with a big pile of gravel but as yet I don't have a need for it right now.
