Hello everybody,

I have been teaching myself about aquaponics over the last few months, yet to set up a system as my home scenario has prevented me so far plus I would like some more knowledge gained first.

My background is having two science degrees (freshwater-marine biology) with work experience in a variety of areas, aquariums and research into fish behaviour and husbandry, and alongside that years of DIY house renovation, landscape gardening and a general creativeness to make things.

What I really want to do is meet like minded people who are also learning, or have systems set up. I would love to join a group or community that is using aquaponics to improve peoples lives.

Is there anyone in Yorkshire (I am in York), interested in meeting up?

Bekky

Welcome Bekky, I think with your credentials it would be madness not to start a AP system. Feel free to ask questions or run ideas past us.

HI Bekky, we are not so close to each other but at least we share the same country.
I've deeply involved in AP for the last 4 years and finally last year we have moved to a farm and start a big scale system.
I have been participating in the Master gardener scheme and been helping set up and spread the word for a sustainable future in my area, here near Glastonbury there is a big transition movement and many people grow some of the food themselves.
We are member of the Somerset farmers market and run weekly market since this summer.

If you would like to came for a visit (Somerset) or ask question we are here to support.

Regards

Thank you Charlie and Bioaquafarm, its great to hear from you both. I only just found the email notification so I'm sorry for such a delayed reply!

Bioaquafarm - I would certainly be interested in coming to visit your farm sometime, even though it is a long way. I had a peek at your posts; your set up looks huge and I really like the idea of growing eels - knowing they are quite rare now in the UK any success in growing them can only be a good thing. I hope your structures are withstanding these storms lately.
I have also just looked up the master gardener scheme you mentioned, Id heard of the name before thinking it was 'just gardening' - so that was a nice surprise.

I will be in touch!

kind regards,
Bekky
