Just found this site while looking for info on running prawns in the system. Have a small toteponic setup east of Amarillo, 1 fish tank, 1 sump, 2 grow beds... plans to expand to about 4x that come spring. Currently have sand bass in the tank but planning to get in some Tilapia pretty soon. Glad to have found the site. :)

Well well, I keep hearing there are others here in the Texas Panhandle but haven't made contact with any. I'm in Amarillo and have a small greenhouse setup - you can see pictures at the Amarillo TX Startup link. Good to have you here.

Are you getting the talapia from Fish Pro here in Amarillo? He said he was expecting some. I've got small catfish in mine right now and Anthony says talapia and catfish can co-exist.

The water stays at 74 degrees with a small submersible heater in a 100 gal tank - the aux heater that I have only had to use the last couple of days is a small , maybe 5 inch square cat heater.

The White Brook thing looks like a good idea. Was thinking about ordering some in after the snow clears but the minimum order is 50 on the hatchery choice and I could use half of that at most. How many are you ordering and when?

Terry, I was planning on ordering 50 of the White Nile but not sure when. I still need to pick up a filter and heater for the baby tank.

Far as how they ship, I have no idea. We've ordered fish and inverts for our saltwater tanks, and they always come in insulated coolers and O2 packed bags, never had any trouble. Figured they'd do the same way.

hello Panhandle folks,

its good to see more ppl out there getting into AP..

I grew up in Lamesa, and would have loved to have done a AP system out there way back when....

Just a warning on the Nile Tilapia, you CAN NOT have any Niles in Texas, unless you have a Exotic species permit...

if you have the Exotic species permit..... you can not sell Niles to anyone in Texas that does NOT have a Exotic species permit.....

You can not sell any kind of tilapia unless you have a Exotic species permit...

You can only have the Mozambique tilipia , with out the Exotic species permit.....

I have the silver Mozambique from Overtons, and the golden Mozambique from White Brook....

I have the Exotic species permit, and sell fish to local's in the DFW area, when i have them available.....

good luck with your systems........
