Well after doing the reading on AP and knowing I need a greenhouse anyways for my lemon trees that I already have, I started construction on my greenhouse yesterday it's a 10x16 frame with off set roof that I am going to put vents into the offset. I live in a larger residential area so didn't want it to draw to much attention being that I live off the main entrance and highway. Hope to have it finished today minus the door and maybe the window vents (forgot the hinges) ImageImageso I hope to have the last wall and to have the rafters up today after church then I work the next 48 hours so maybe I can get the plastic on before tonight otherwise it will be all done on Wednesday. More photos to come As the greenhouse and AP come along.

That's going to be a nice size. Wish I could have one that large but I live in a retirement community and space is limited. 6 x 8 tucked neatly into the available space here. Will watch the progress with interest.

Well went to finish my greenhouse today. Bad news. No 8' step ladder to do the rafters. So now I work the next 48hrs and have a friend bringing one on Wednesday to help finish he is also going to bring a miter saw for the rafter angels. So I wrapped the frame I have in some 6mil so if it happens to rain the untreated wood would not be exposed. Only putting me behind a little will have to make up some some where.

Well back from my 48hr shift on the ambulance. Have to go back for another 24 tomorrow, but did get some progress done on the GH today after a nap and the honey does. We ran into a few issues with a bowing problem that occurred while I was gone. The walls have bowd out by about 1/2 an inch, but we put the rafters up anyways. I will come back and resquare it at another time. Only thing left are the vents, the door, and to wrap it. ImageImageImage
Couldn't resist the one my wife sent me of our 4yld girl helping

Eventually I would like to us the polycarbonate, but I have a lot of questions about it. I want to be able to open meany of the panels as vents, how well does it insulate, and what is the best way to install it? but till I can afford to make that decision. I'm going to stick with 6 mil plastic. And maybe go with some corrugated sheet in clear, but I don't whant to buy things twice .

I have 1 1/2 inch foil faced board insulation on mine from the top of the growbeds down since that doesn't need sun and it helps shade the fish tank. Really helps retain warmth. I have one inch rubber tiles for a floor and the fish tank and sumo, the portion above ground is wrapped with insulation as well. It's 25 f deg out and the water temp holds at 74 and the air tempo in the greenhouse is at 64f. I am still running that small cataylic heater in there. We ate our first salad out of it last night with four kinds of lettuce, onions and chives but I had to use a store tomato as they aren't ready yet. A couple of boiled eggs and some chunk chicken left from the roaster we had yesterday and it was yummy.

I was thinking of doing the rubber on the ground. But am going to be in need of letting heat off when the summer comes. It can easily get to 110 here in my part of east Texas due to the humidity and don't want my fish to boil. Was going to do the vents at the top of the greenhouse several fans built in to then to blow heat out. And was thinking of having the panels raise out to help vent. Plus I am going to bury my IBC totes and make guardrails for them (have two young daughters). But am still worried about the temperature ove the summer if I do the polycarbonate.

Think I would love it for the winters here. This past week has been our worse November in a long time and it has only gotten down to 29, wet and cold but not to bad till you think I work EMS and am out in it all day.

I see two reasons that it bowed.
First, the 4x4's are sitting on unleveled ground. I can tell you from experience that even though it is pressure treated it will warp signifigantly when sitting directly on the dirt. I would jack it up and put concrete blocks under it. If you leave it the way it is it will be permanently warped in no time.

Second, the top plate on the walls needs to be double stacked 2x4's to support the load of the roof properly.
