Has anyone used Perlite to grow carrots and onions as well as other root and bulb plants? I have heard that it could compact and isn't great but I was thinking that if it is possible to fix that problem that with how light it is growing these veggies may be possible and really amazing.

Perlite is great for growing carrots... but use a wicking bed...

It's just a pain in the arse trying to use perlite in aquaponics...

Spring onions grow very well in my gravel + Canna clay balls mix GBs, and currently I have a batch of carrots in there which appear to be doing very well. although I haven't harvested any yet to see how they look and taste.

I've seen a few videos online last night of root vegetables doing really well. The only one I haven't seen is someone growing potato's.

Good to know I just picked up 200 onion sets for around six bucks two different types. I would have bought less but the 100 pack was the only sizeI could find.

Radishes, Celeriac and beetroot are doing fine in clay beds and I am now trialling some type of small and round carrots from Italy.
