Hello I'm from rural east Texas (Gregg County area). Grew up farming with my grandparents and want my two daughters to have some of the same foods that I had growing up. Thought an aquaponics system in a green house would be a great idea. I currently have 2 lemon trees left to me from my grandparents one Ponderosa one Myers that I move into the garage and heat each winter, and out in the spring and summer. This has become a problem in my neighborhood as people are being to take the lemons from the tree. So the will be moved to a green house with the aquaponics system. I am loking to build a 10x16 greenhouse and slowly upgrade it over the years as I work in EMS and dont have much time and funds.
So I may be on with many questions. And as the heat rises in the south the big question will be keeping the fish alive. So thanks for any help in the future.

Welcome Bearmedic. When your citrus trees are established, you will have a hard time giving away all your extra fruit to your neighbors!

Welcome to the forum, I live near Crockett Tx. I plan on taking my green house down during the summer, and just covering the ap system with shade cloth.

My greenhouse will be set up so that I can roll the sides up about halfway and ventillated on the ends. Will be putting screening under the plastic to keep insects out as much as possible. I ran my system in direct sunlight this past summer with a small piece of shadecloth that really only helped around noon. Water temps were running in the mid 90's. The new system will have a buried 270 gallon IBC tank in lieu of the small tank I had previously. (Just waiting for the reinforcements to help dig that one in)

Even if you were to build a lumber framed greenhouse you could always make the lower 2 feet or so hinged panels that could flip up and lock open.

As far as my trees go they are well established several decades old the Myers produces like crazy but the Ponderosa only does like one or 2 a year but they are like 6-8lbs each. I would like to figure out how I could make more trees frome these being these frome my grandparents and meaning so much to me.

I like this design. You can run the poly panels which are far more efficeint than film, and you could still do ventillation low on the walls. It would work perfect with the roof windows you have planned there. In fact, you could do half of the windows on the roof and the other half low, every other stud bay. Put window screens inside them, and have the perfect setup.

As far as the water temp in the fish tank --- put the tank in the ground, at 5 feet below grade the temp in Texas stays around 58 degrees F. With the water running thru the grow beds the temp of the water would never reach 90.
