Interested to know if anyone has used the 60 or 75 litre willow garbage bins from bunnings? For either aquaponics or as an alternative to pots/containers for growing fruit trees in? They are made from polypropylene and marked as 5 on the recycle scale. I have read mixed reveiws, where most say that they should be ok, but some say regardless of the material and recycle symbol, they still need to be marked as food safe. People on marine tank forums mentioned they use them for mixing and storing water with no ill effects on fish, mind you not on edibles. I can't find anything official on this though, so I would love some feedback if anyone knows? I have sent willow an email, with no response yet...... I plan to use them as fruit tree growing containers, using potting mix, (possibly wicking style) they seem like a fairly economical and suitable option provided they are usable for edible fruits.....

Use blue barrels.... Much stronger and made for holding food products rather than rubbish. :thumbright:
