Anyone know anything about these pumps http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tetra-Pond-CFP-11500-Fountain-Pump-Brand-New-Waterfall-/350099122656

Looking for an upgrade as the one i have is just enough I put a daft start bid on one that started at 35€ as it seemed to be in the wrong section anyway i won it for 35€($50au) :D , arrived today and sure enough its brand new never been wet or seems that way, Works 100%. The cheapest i've seen is about 150€ so i think i got a bargain.

Thing is its 11500l/h which is far too big for my system the way it stands so what would be the best way to pass the excess volume, i have a basic CHIFT PIST system, 1000lt FT but +3 x 650lt sumps, the pump i have at the mo is just keeping up with little spare as its a 1250l/h Eheim

1, leave in sump and T outlet recirculating to sump and adjust volume to FT via ballvalve(sump stays clean)
2, pump all to FT and let surplus directly back to sump(some dirty water to sump from FT)
3, Electronically slow the pump down to a lesser volume and probably saving some of the 140w rating

any other ideas welcome

I'd recirc back to the sumps via either 3 x spray bars or perhaps dropping the water from a height and adding venturis to each ST inlet. Can't have too much DO.

You could save on power by having any air pump sitting on standby with fail-over to kick it off if the pump fails.

What would it cost to get electronic throttling happening?

Put it in your wardrobe and design a bigger system. :)

Is that really a German made pump, if so you scored big time. :thumbright:

Design in the works :thumbleft:

Yes its a german built pump and it sure puts out the volume, i tried it in one of the sumps just to see with no outlet pipe on just circulating water, the damn thing started flying round and round, it needs tying down but will be ok once i get an outlet pipe on it, or i could use it to power a jetski :laughing3:

Wrote this else where but I thought it needed to be here since it is about my Laguna 11000.

My BYAP system has been sitting idill (sp?) for about 4 years. I shut it down because my commercial was going to take all my time and I didn't want a bio-insecure system at home while I worked in a bio-secure system.

Anyway commercial system still not running and no indications of when it will and I have to move house in a year or two so decided to get the old system running again.

I never packed the pump away and it has been sitting in the sump since I turned off the power. Two weeks ago I turned it on and its working fine.

The only thing I would say is that the external insulation on the power cable has become a bit brittle where it was exposed to the sun.

So if I have to buy another pump for a BYAP system it will be another laguna because this one has lasted so well.

Stuart, I think you'll find that many pumps fail because people take them out of the water, and don't bother to clean them thoroughly. The grunge inside dries and locks the rotor and bearings. In the case of a cheap pump you will hear ping and rattle rattle. An expensive pump will hum and hopefully turn itself off because the thermal overload has tripped. :)

was cleaning scoria and had roughly 20 scoria (about 25-32mm dia.) get syphoned back into the pump.
after running like this for a day or so, finally decided to inspect it and found the rocks.

pump still works fine.

would recommend Lowarra DOC3, so far.

Been a while since I got on this thread. My smartpond 3600 gallon pump went out today and I am looking for a replacement. Want one about the same GPH flow, but I want a better pump. Any recommendations. Want to spend less than 200 hopefully.

My system is running off my smartpond 2000 gallon pump, so it is not a urgent need.
Thanks

I've had good luck with the Laguna Maxflo pumps (Two of the 2400s) and they're very efficient so won't cost as much to run. The 4200 is a bit over your price range at around 219 up to 300 on Ebay. The 2900 is below 200 and might be sufficient. Expect the Watts used to be slightly higher than stated - mine say 100 Watt but are closer to 125.

I am running 3 Eco pumps off PleaBay and they are running fine, I have a 5000, 8000 and 10000 but when i checked them the other day as not happy with the flow rates, my 5000 pumped 2700 L per hour at 600mm of head, 8000 pumped 2900 L per hour and the 10000 pumped 3300 L per hour all at 600mm of head straight out of the pump 2 X 90 degree bends for easy collection. Results a far cry from what they claim
I have sent them several emails but haven't heard anything back, they just ignoring me.

Those flow rates are pretty crap at just 0.6m head! What size and length pipes are you using? The 5000 would appear to be the best performer relative to the claims, assuming your pipe is sized appropriately.

Thanks Scotty. Going to look for one. 2900 is probably enough.

Glad to help Helo. The two I have are going on 3 years without any problems. One of the two has been run continuously the entire time.

Agreed,
I am running 1m of 25mm flexible hose into 25mm pipe all the way.
The flow rates at 0.6m was through the flexible hose only.
Here is a rough sketch i did the other day for another thread regarding air lift assist to increase flow rate.

You won't be able to build a solar system for under $1000, but go here and check things out if your planning on going the IBC path...

My fully solar system cost around $500 all up, and it's been running flawlessly for over 18 months.

Just sayin'. :-)
