If you're using cement for the cone will you need to seal it? Will it raise your ph if you don't?

Better to paint or seal and then seal around the edge between cement and drum.

FYI, if you have another container handy and a bunch of aeration you can add to it, you can flush the solids and whatever extra water comes with it to that container and let it aerate heavily until the gunk doesn't stink anymore (basically means it's stabilized) then you can shut off the air, let the gunk settle and siphon off the clear nutrient rich water back to your system if you need or use it elsewhere you need really nutrient rich water. Then if you de-water whatever gunk is left and feed it to the worms, compost or soil garden, you make use of all that which is otherwise waste.

Thanks TCLynx.. A little, well almost 7' tall, bird told me about mineralisation systems a while ago & have the spot picked out to put one into the system.. It will be running into the Bio at this stage & then out from there to the beds..
At the moment the waste is used in worm cast teas, added into the worm barrels or onto compost piles.. Is just another one of those jobbies that needs something else done first before I can do it

Thanks for the look Mantis :thumbright: Do you find you need to stir it up a bit first to get the solids flowing ?

perfect thanks!
I wonder what I could do with a 40mm (10lph pump_ - maybe to down to 32mm.

I was wondering where you get those flexible pump hoses and how much are they?

Here's a picture of mine Bob. Thanks for your kind help.
I build it down to the bottom and ran horizontal along the fish tank with holes drilled for air to make a wall. The tap is great for when you want to look into your tank with less disturbance.

Why would you ever retire media beds? (unless they are damaged or leaking?)

there have been times I might not be able to get media and might operate a bed as a raft or something else because of circumstances but I don't think I would ever remove media from a bed in order to run it as a Raft bed. All other things being equal I've always had far better plant growth in media.
