My juviniles would only eat crushed pellet, most of first season. Chugging down pellets now. Probably eaten more in last month than entire winter.

System seems to be ticking on ok at the moment.
Ammonia- 2
Nitrites- .25
Nitrates- 0
Ph- 8

Fish are eating when I get the pellets to sink.
Down to 4 goldfish. Might up the feed.

Getting a bit of algae growth on the bottom of the tank so will be covering with shade cloth this weekend.
How do people clean algae off? I thought of scrubbing it off while siphoning water??

Algae growing on the sides and bottoms of your tank is called "biofilm", it's good and you should leave it there.. :thumbright:

Sounds good to me. Guessing that's why you sell more green tanks than cream?

That's the bottom of my tank.

Down to 2 goldfish even after upping the feed. Guess there won't be any left soon enough.

Yea the fish are going great now they have settled in.

The complete kit cost me just over $2200.

I have now covered the exposed part of the tank with some shade cloth to keep the sun off and hopefully slow down the algae growth.
Got up this morning and tested my water before work. Seems to be getting there. My first sign of nitrates.

Image

Looks lie
Ammonia- 2
Nitrite- 2
Nitrate- 20
PH- 8

I changed about 20-25% of the water in the tank because i wasnt sure if the nitrites are getting too high?

Fish are healthy. Hopefully I start seing some vege growth soon. Things are very slow in the grow bed at the moment.

So system is hopefully doing what it's supposed to.
Ammonia is tight down to nearly zero now, nitrites and nitrates are high.
I put 1ppt salt in the system a couple days ago.

All fish still alive and looking alright now after the salt addition.
Starting to notice some growth on the plants now.
I'm not feeding the fish yet as suggested in another thread. Hopefully the nitrites drop soon and I can get back into feeding them.

One of the fish was just swimming on the bottom and didn't look well. Most likely due to high nitrites.
I was told 1ppt salt will help with nitrite poisoning and so far so good.
