Hello aquaponics community! I am fairly new to aquaponics in general, having come to this field on a tangent from pondscaping for ducks. I have for the past few years been assimilating information on how to adapt integrated aquaculture practices to a duckcentric model, and am looking forward to sharing ideas and getting feedback from those with similar interests and/or relevant experience. My "aquaponic interests" include everything from media-based and DWC grow styles to Earthan-style integrated wicking worm beds, bog filters, swirl filters, and algae scrubbers. I am very keen on the idea of aquaponics greenhouses with or without their own aquaculture tanks, integrated in a circulating network fed from a larger pond used for large-scale aquaculture and/or ducks. The farm pond is the standard for irrigation in large-scale agriculture, and it's my belief that's the ideal foundation for aquaponics at the homestead level and up! B)

welcome to the forum.

I think tclynx had some kind of a duckponics working. I was thinking about it as well but the chickens have priority atm.

I have already some nice container sitting here which would be nice as a duck pond (in my opinion, I never had ducks before... or chicken... or Barramundi ;-) ) and basically an unlimited access to ibcs for a carton of beer but I am not sure whether I want them (they come from a car repair shop and look pretty dirty, have to find out about the stuff which was in them).

File comment: Like the yellow tub these ibc are sitting on. And I got two off them.

I did see TCL's thread, and enjoyed the duck river! :D I am getting ready to dig a nice little liner pool (1,000-2,500gal) for our duckies come spring to finally upgrade from the old kiddie pools, so it's been nice to see similar projects. The biggest priority for a successful duckponics system seems to be having lots of bog filter and/or grow bed space - 5sqft per duck minimum, regardless of the size of the duck pool or pond. :P In addition to an ample in-ground bog filter with vigorous duck-resistant plants, I'll be lining raised barrel-beds along the fenceline of the duck yard. Pulling off an AP setup for a flock of 30 is going to be no small undertaking, but should be lots of fun! :-)
