I have two questions. 1. Is there a product to add to the water that will clear up the water in the fish tanks, somewhat, and that does not affect the aquaponics process or harm the fish? 2. I have some 60 small (4" long) tilapia in my tanks, how do I determine their gender?
Thanks,
Truman

Hi allentftd

Can you describe a bit more about the what is wrong with your water? Is it green/algae, murky, fish poo? The solution to these are different. A photo may help.

This past summer I had algae in the tanks. It is cooler now in the greenhouse and after having drained the tanks, counted the fish, separated small from large, the water become dark, murky, unable to see more than 3 inches into it.
In the past when this happened I purchased a product at Walmart, however, now I'm concerned if it was harmful. I am
purchasing STRESS ZYME. Perhaps that will be the answer.

for the tilapia gender, look at the belly near the fin, if u see two holes its a female. One hole it's the male.

the murky from the fish feces, dead algae and any solid waste that settle over time.
I recommend fill the up a little, than stir the tank, pump out the water.
Once u filled it up to normal water height it should be clear
