So while i wait for capping and stone to tile and pretty up the system i've been thinking about grow beds and where to put them and how to build them.
I'm thinking about putting them on stilts over the pond so there's a bit of shade and somewhere for the fish to hide under.
Ive put in this very technical highly detailed drawing of what i'm thinking.

With the legs standing in water what materials would be suitable? I guess a steel frame would be best. Is there any type of metal that would work better?
Has anyone ever tried making grow beds out of cement fibre sheeting? i was thinking of boxing them out with that and waterproofing the inside. That way i can paint the outside the same colour as my pond.

Any thoughts would be very appreciated
Thanks Mat

Use 316 Stainless Steel if you are going to have any part of the frames in water, and don't put any galvanized material against the Stainless, it causes a corrosive reaction. :)

You could use bricks in the water, dot use galv because the zinc will kill fish. Stainless will also be ok I think

Couldn't you put a growbed at each end extended from the fish tank and still overlapping the pond so that the water drains straight down from the growbeds. It seems like a wast to spoil the view of the pond which looks awesome by the way Mat.

I'm glad you like my high tech drawings joeblow :funny1:
And thanks for the info on s steal everyone I'm pretty good with most motar and wood products but I have no idea about steal

Thanks faye I'll have a look into putti ing the gbs on the side. I was always building the pond but only recently discovered aquaponics and thought id incorperate it to the build. I probly would have tweaked the design a bit otherwise

looks great, very professional get some updates when you have more.

Like the people above said 316 stainless will be the best/cheapest solution. Dont go for 304 if they have it, 316 better.

What fish and how many will you have?
