Hi, I have a fairly new system (set up just before winter and only now starting to "work"). I have Koi and SP's of mixed size - Koi up to about 6-8" down to littlies I bought at about 2" the other day. SP's around 2-4". My new 2" koi have had two part eaten, only the head is gone.

Can anyone tell me is the culprit likely to be in the tank or outside (I've put a net over now)? I have another pond with koi in if I have to shift anyone out.

Thanks for any help.

SP's will eat fish smaller than they are. I would think your 4" SP's are eating the new koi.

You need to separate them - make a mesh barrier with something like fly screen the width and height of your FT and set it in there - move the SP's to one side of the barrier and have the Koi on the other.

Thanks for that. Wouldn't th SP's eat the whole fish, not just the head?? Had a thought that it could be Butcher birds, so will leave the net over for now. I guess they would take the whole fish too..Maybe us humans are eating the poor section of fish (the body) and should be eating the head ...
