The other thing with PVC is it causes your hair to thin and you get a few more wrinkles; I have noticed this happening over the last 25 years (someone should have told me quarter of a century ago). :)

Are you sure thats just not "aquaponics" in general that does this?

Don't think so. :)
I find it very relaxing; I have a HSM with the GB ATM, but it can wait till after my grandaughters 2nd birthday, which may give me a little stress (its at my place).

I wonder if you could get organic certification if you used bamboo as your pipe material?

Probably have to be "organically grown bamboo"

Well you know, living is very deadly. Anyone who lives should know that it will kill ya so if you don't want to die, you should really avoid living in the first place. :bootyshake: Living also causes gray hair, wrinkles, indigestion, aging and all manner of diseases.

I had similar concerns about Plastic in general and used 1/2 OD stainless steel tubing that I bought from a beer making website, then I had to by a bender for $200 (rigid) and bent the tubing myself. Because the small size of the tubing I ended up having to double up the pipe to each grow bed. I even had my grow bed fabricated out of food grade stainless steel and used a 75 gallon fish tank to avoid using plastic. Unfortunately I still have plastic in my pumps. Let me know if you want to see my contraption.....

Glad you mention the pumps Fresno69.

It is interesting to read the issues of piping in conversation with rainwater systems....

Sadly in many areas the actual rainwater itself can be worse than anything else.
In fact in WA the Health Department warns about drinking or using for potable/consumptive purposes untreated urban roof sourced rainwater.

Country people drank rainwater from iron roofs with lead soldered plumbing and lead sheet seals for many years..........
Bitumen is no longer too popular for community water supply harvesting... yet was the main stay of rural Government systems for a long time.

not looking to get into debates or ranging off topic, but it gets pretty scary when you consider the particulate matter that blows around the average modern community. You would have to seriously RO and/or filter it first, but not many do that I suspect.

Funny how people make such a big deal about their rainwater, yet it often always has a noticeable tang in my mind.
But in the country it tastes better than water that has sat in black water supply poly pipes in high temperatures.....

Waste of time watering plants with and drinking distilled water.........
