Yea I heard about the drought Rupe and put 2 and 2 together, lots of dry stuff around just waiting for a flame. Pretty scary. Strange how not so long ago we were reading about the floods in Queensland.

Funny you should say that Colours, the article I was reading was in the Northern Star (I think from memory), and it was about global warming and its effects. Apparently the south east of Australia is the most effected part of the world. It detailed predictions of life losses due to rising water tables and fires ect leading into the next 50 years.

Not trying to start a climate change discussion but it was an interesting/sadening read anyways.

Charlie I don't want to lose friends here but tony abbot is a scientist and knows global warming is just a croc. Oh wait, no he's not...

Anyway, I have a house in Winmalee that was fire damaged, it is unlivable and tenants have gone but are safe thank god. NRMA claim that they will cover the property for fire damage but not water damage from the RFS extinguishing the blaze!!

I live in Kurrajong and the conditions over the next 3 days are expected to be catastrophic. We have to prepare for flames in our backyard early next week. So there you go, might have smoked trout before expected. Personally my plan is to grab kids and scarper.

A damn good fire plan Carolin...

Haven't heard from my client at Mt Tootie for a couple of days... no calls or texts returned...

Hope his property is OK... the house is worth about $3million...

It's really not looking very promising. Everyone is moving their horses. The grass is orange from the glow on the horizon and the red sun. They say the whole of the blue mountains may eventually burn. Larger than life and I don't have much hope for my trout. I am adding some dam water daily to keep the temp down, I will monitor pH and nitrates are up a bit. But my priority is more on photos, livestock etc at the moment. Wed will be the killer (no pun intended?) up to 90 km winds. With lots of animal lovers in my circle of friends I hope no one does anything stupid. I've got a really bad feeling about this week.

Hmm maybe I need to reconsider. Raining trout? What better end could there be? Wish we had a cellar...

Did the trout behave themselves while you were away?

All good and very hungry. pH behaved too! Spaghetti squash germinated but that's all. Have had to germinate everything else on my windowsill. What gives?

How did you fair? Trout still eating? It's very cold here again at night. We will eventually cover the stainless growbeds with split rock wall which will hopefully keep the water cooler. Will see about that next season.

They didn't eat much on Tue and Wed, and I had to drive to Qld and back on Wed to get some fruit fly netting, so left Mrs G in charge of ice adding duties, and I had no losses at temps up to around 22C. Strangely they were quite hungry when I got back, and ate 120g in the evening with a water temp of just over 22C, after eating 80g early in the morning @21C.
The next day was slightly cooler, but the water was 20-21C all day due to the warm night, and for the first time they ate over 400g of 7mm pellets. I guess 2 days of reduced eating left them hungry, although they were not quite so hungry yesterday when the water stayed under 19C.
My plants are going berserk, especially the tomatoes, I need to build some frames to hold them up and stop them completely covering the GBs. I'll take a pic today and post in my system thread tomorrow.
