I think Yates is a brand of chelated iron in Oz. I would definitely go for the chelated iron with the high pH. Choose the DTPA or EDHHA if you can find it. The EDTA isn't of much use at such a high pH

Cute set up. How much that 150 W solar panel costed you?

Ebay is my best guess, they are around $150.00. I used to have them in stock, but as the prices drop very quickly I don't try to compete any more. This are my last panels and at least I found a good use for them.

Thanks. The price is pretty reasonable for a 150W. Price dropping for solar panels is good news for aquaponics growers, isn't it?

Thank you TCLynx, I've got it, but it is not changing much. Impatient me, probably takes a while.

Yes the price is dropping as also the quality. But as they say: "you get what you pay"

Here the latest and last piece of equipment to get my setup off the grid, plus I've got plenty power left for that Beer fridge :occasion5: plus some power tools and light in the shed.

Hi enviroinnovations

I am considering adding a wind generator to supplement my solar panels on my system and are very interested in your experience with your wind generator.

Any learning's to share?

Gabe

That's a good place to research, skeggley.

Using the Fremantle doctor to generate power is an easy way.

Any wind generator will do, but a few things you need to consider:

- It needs an electromagnetic brake system to stop the wind generator if there is to much wind, otherwise you'll burn your battery bank or the whole thing fly away. I had some bad experience with cheaper imports; they advertised the brakes but did not work. The replacement I received did the same, but the damage to my car was not covered.
JayCar removed the whole range of wind generator out of there stores and have a read at there warning reminders about wind speed and noise. It was interesting to talk to the Store Manager about their experience with wind generators and customers.

- The other consideration is the noise. When the wind hit's the blades you'll get a whistling sound, that's when you realise the price you payed for your investment. The design and material of the blades are the key factor of how much noise will be transformed to sound and vibration.

Let me know if you need more information's, I'm happy to help.

Definitely also research the minimum wind speeds to get anything useful out of a generator. And then research the average wind speeds in your location. In my location most of the time we don't have enough wind to do anything with a standard wind generator and when we do get lots of wind, it is usually a bad time to have something like that (hurricanes).
