Oh, one nice thing about some of the sulphuric acid type pH down products is you can get them in granular form rather than liquid which makes handling and transporting them a bit safer. The gallon jug of liquid Hydrochloric acid has all sorts of cautions about transporting and storing it and the fumes that can come out of the jug when you open it. (DO NOT open or use in an enclosed space. Do not open it with your head over or down wind of the bottle since the fumes are NOT GOOD for you. DO NOT let it tip over in your van, car or suv. It i best to transport it in the back of an open pickup in a crate strapped to the side so it can't tip over. etc)

And I also agree that the acid should not be used in the system but to treat the top up water.

On the advice from the very good chaps at "Bright Agrotech" I put some of the pool lining plaster in a jar and added some vinegar!

Sure enough it started bubbling and the solution went milky.

so I guess that's what has been causing some of my problems,

I will have to get moving on a liner or something.

I wonder if we should have just filled in the pool!

Thanks for the encouragement Colours, not giving up but I need to decide on how to fix the plaster problem.

be nice if there was a magic potion that would neutralise the plaster?

At this time I will probably get a 0.5 poly liner.

I think you lay it out flat on the top and as the water enters, it stretches it into shape, moulds nicely.

I was hoping to get a few mates over and slide it into the FT with water and fish in situ!

the poly is available in LWPE with is more flexible.

Am thinking with a several people the cover should slide into the FT part of the pool.

Would need to keep an eye on the fish and yabbies so none of them get under the cover.

Where is the drain in all of this? Perhaps you could get the cover on most on the way, then pump the remaining water on top of it.

Ha Ha, bear in mind the water is only 450mm deep.

I was only planning to have the liner go up to about 1000mm depth.
didn't see the need to line to whole pool, was planning on the liner top edge having a batten going around concrete nailed to the pool wall.

The idea of putting the liner in wet was because I'm to lazy to remove the fish.

Otherwise it's probably better to borrow a FT and drain and clean the pool.

not sure what would be more stressful for the fish, having a liner slid in or being caught and put in another FT?

I heard they were breeding to restock the river with prawns so people could catch them with nets?
