I don't know how true it was Gav, it was secondhand, but I was told GP brought Trout in from over East last year when there was a shortage.

Hadn't heard of that one, I know they bought thousands of fry from Pemberton in the spring so unless they lost them over the summer I wouldn't have thought they would of needed to bring any in. I haven't seen where GP keep their trout but was told its in an insulated and air conditioned shed so if that's the case the heat shouldn't have worried them.

Can some one out there (Rupert or Troutman perhaps) please comment on the effect of water movement.

I was only getting minimum water movement from my return pipes but have notice some blokes use power heads or similar to get some swirl. Is this likely to make the trout leaner & less fatty due to the exercise or smaller due to the exertion. Or maybe even larger cos they get all buffed up?

I can't wait until next trout season. It almost seems like passing time with Barramundi while waiting for temps to drop.

IMO... yes water movement will condition and grow better trout...

Circulation also helps solids removal...

I've just increased my trouts' exercise regime by reversing the water rotation direction in my FT again, now they all have to swim against the current, instead of with it.

I think when your growing fish in a small area like IBC's or poly tanks it pays to provide water movement.

Since my commercial ventures are on hold at the moment I thought I would fire my backyard system up and coincidentally some friends want me to grow some stuff for them.

I called the Ballarat hatchery today and was told that they had fry at 1" fed on dust for $44/100 fish.

My biggest concern is that at 1" they will end up in the sump if they are lucky and stuck in the gravel beds if they are not.

I'm not worried about hot temperatures because where I am is pretty cool but if I stock to a harvest density of even 40kg/m3 then that will be a grand total of 91.6g of fish. (~0.175g ea).
