well since my last post here a lot has changed!!

we have eight Isa Browns consistently producing 6-8 eggs a day.
We lost one of the 'new' girls to a respiratory infection so we decided to get some more...

We got four, week old, sussex chicks (two light and two silver/light cross) and they are now five weeks old.

one of them turned out to be a bloke so we picked up another three light sussex to make up for the roo  unfortunately as soon as he crows he will become a roaster.

they started off in a little brood box until i built this and they took up residence in the lounge room

now that they are getting big and very very smelly we relocated them to the shed and added another level so they have some head height.

they won't be in the shed for long... i am building a coop and run for them.
they will be separated from the Isa Browns as they are still so small. Bit by bit they will be introduced and eventually will be housed in the main coop/run so i can raise meat chooks in the second coop/run.

site for new coop/run

Hello iceman

Very inspiring, especially the nest box design. I went with a steel aviary which I have to transform to a chicken coop (timber just doesn't work here in the tropics and with all the termites). The living greens frame is a goer as well, already got a chuck tucker mix from green harvest sitting here.

Cheers

we have a lot of orchards around here and drive past towers of old crates and love recycling stuff as much as possible... it was inevitable really.

i should add that the nesting boxes will be fully removable so the coop can e used for raising pullets until they start laying and then it can e easily put back in or used for meat chooks and plenty of space to stay out of the weather
