I'd love to know how to mind map. I should try and do a course sometime. It would be very useful at work and for study.

Mind mapping sounds similar to what we were taught when we learned to speed read... except it was called "memory chunking"...

Jezz I wish they would teach every kid to speed read.

memory chunking, isn't that what happens when you spend the whole night on the turps? :}

Mind-mapping is like brainstorming where rather than just chucking down ideas you actually structure it and can later create an essay or report from it. It can also include drawings, pictures and symbols. Anything that will help you remember things.

Ie. One of the god awful English essays (anyone who has done TEE lately knows) we were taught to mind map and split it up into each of the sections of the essay. Yeah right, as if we have time to do that in the exam.

Hi,

As someone who has worked with many hundreds of apprentices, I'd be happy if they just taught them how to read.

Mind mapping was invented by an Englishman called Tony Buzan.

"Mind mapping is a way of presenting complex information visually to ensure maximum memory retention and understanding. Mind mapping software enables you to quickly map out complex information in the form of a mind map.

By visually arranging information into an easy to manage mind map, you are able to understand and work with much larger volumes of information than is normally possible using conventional methods. Once your Mind map is assembled, you can convert the information into any number of common formats such as Word documents, web pages, project plans, email or even exchange data in spreadsheets."

VB, if you can borrow (or buy) his book "The Mindmap Book" you'll quickly learn how it works. While mind mapping software is not essential, it is very useful.....and you can convert your mind maps to other document types (like WORD) for alternative use.

If you go to http://www.mindsystems.com.au/products/mindmanager/ you'll learn more and you can download a free trial.

Another really good program is called Inspiration. We are looking at it for here (work): http://www.inspiration.com/productinfo/ ... /index.cfm

It is very similar in functionality, just a bit flashier.
