MC,

Yep Murray Darlings the one. Covers most of Southern QLD through to NSW , VIc and SA.

My folks have got farms all over the Darling downs. We used to catch cat fish and yabbies in the creeks. We would dig in the compost heap and find some worms, walk or ride down to the river, chuck in some nets and the lines, go exploring jump off the cliffs doing bombies intot he water, sit under the trees on the bank eating fruit from prickly pear and occassionally check our lines.

Can't remember any muddy taste in either of the catch. Just skinned them and cooked them in butter.Yumm.

Ahh, when oy was yung!!

Hey Doc, I will stay away from sport for a bit. Especially as we're playing the AB's this weekend and I am developing a stomach ulcer. :)

Who else can't believe that Charlie didn't know where Charlie Carp came from? :D

I had a few years like yours when I was young Doc. Stayed in a farm, not a lot of water but lots of exploring and used to go hunting on my own as a kid. Was awesome. Also where we stayed on the south coast was subtropical, lovely weather and lots of days on the beach.

As for the Americas Cup - if I had to start following another sport passionately I think I would come home to an empty house. My rugby and cricket already get me into trouble regularly. :)

Learning where the boundaries are. July is a horror month with State of Origin, Tour de France, and this year the ashes, August was quieter, now the one dayers. Sports lovers delight! Luckily Mrs Bee likes SoO and cricket, less now that Hussey has retired. Set up the recorder for the yachting. Sneak in a viewing when she falls asleep on the couch.

Busy weekend.

Laid concrete floor for shed, rain washed away the step before I realised it was raining. Front looks like shit, as all the fines washed away, back half looks okay... for a shed.

Pulled out the last of the snow peas and sugar snaps, Got another 200gm from it, so all up about 2 kg from four plants. Once I dug through, there were a few branches that made me think there were 8.

Have supported the toms to get them off the bed. Too much weight for the poly shade mesh frame. Supporting off the reo mesh and some stakes. Found heaps of over ripe toms in the mess of bushes, and picked a punnet full already.

Made room for some lettuce, 10 seedlings planted.

Mulberries going ballistic.

Potatoes in a bag going along fine.

Photos to follow.

Humpht - got cubs and karate training tonight. Its raininig again, Need to do more tidy up work and bottle apple cider. Never enough time...

Yip, never enough time. The wife and kids are away this week and I doubt I will have enough time to sit down on the couch! Although a lot of my spare time is taken up with sport as opposed to DIY type work. Will still be going through the store rooms to tidy them up, they haven't seen any attention in two years. Look like two sumo wrestlers had a training camp in each one.

Got back from walking the dog this morning as the sun was coming up. Lovely Dawn to be honest, to find that 10 lettuce seedlings are now four. We had a huge storm last night, but it wasn't the wind that was the culprit, nope, snails. Threw them on the ground in disgust. One was even attached to a tomato. Not so worried about the tomato, but my effort to short cut the system by purchasing lettuce seedlings because I didn't have my shit together enough to grow seedlings from seed was doomed. Maybe this should be in the venting topic. Damn snails.

get some ducks - then you can feed the snails to them :) far more rewarding than chucking them on the ground.

Vent away Doc. :)

Once you're done you can assume the lotus position and take up a new mantra like: "I am a hollow reed."

:D

I spent a few hours up in the Wellington Arbortorium looking at different species of trees. Fantastic variation of pine species up there. Enjoyed the variety of smell each species had. Yeah I know mono cultures...., but without this experimentation, how would we know what trees should be grown for plantation forestry. Hope the government doesn't get rid of them. There are examples of exotics from Eastern States, south america, north America and europe, not sure about asia though.

Good to get out in the fresh air for a few hours rather than sat behind a desk.

Had cricket training last night. Blowing a gale, but no rain.

Got back and cooked a BBQ. Heaps of trouble getting enough heat with all the wind.

Went out to feed the fish and grabbed a few tomatos. Only 2 as I'd got a punnet worth the other day, and it is still cold.

Is that all - she says. Theres more coming. Check out the berries on this sucker.

Heres a photo of the mullberry. Leaves are so healthy. Maybe snails don't eat mulberries, Maybe they are content with tomotos, potato plants and lettuce.

I want to check out how the roots are going, but with all the stuff going on at home at the moment, I think it will stay in the bed this year.

My potatoes got smashed on the weekend. Barely a leaf left. :(

I have relocated the bags away from their location, and smashed probably 50 snails. I hope they recover.

I see one stalk is starting to grow some shoots off the side, so hopefully not all is lost, but the rest of the stalks are flacid.

You need something that eats snails.
