Do you have updated pics of the plant growth. it would be good to see how the plants are coming along :?:

Thanks (the other) BF. it's as much so that I have a record for myself as it is for everyone else.

It's been a little more 'messy' than I expected. Reading the literature you think that as one level rises the other goes down. Didn't expect all levels to be up at once.

I'll get some photos of plant growth tomorrow.

Hi everyone. I've got at least one more trout with obvious fin rot. Any suggestions as to what to do?

I've salted 1ppt twice in the last 12 days, probably slightly more than 1ppt to be honest.

Any ideas?

Are you back to F/D? maybe move to constant flood if you aren't already.

Help! I'm loosing fish. Pulled one out this morning, tail rot. Got at least 3 more with the early signs of it.

I've changed 20% of the water, salted another 2ppt (third time).

Latest readings are:

pH 7.6
Ammonia 1.0
Nitrites 5.0
Nitrates 20

Any ideas of what I can do more?

I'm no expert but if you are still cycling you probably don't want to change out the water? even though that would be the logical thing?

Your PH needs to be lowered some how so nitrite and ammonia aren't as toxic.

Stop feeding for a start and get the salt up to 3ppt. Do you have a refractometer to measure salt levels ?

I haven't fed for 7 days. I don't have a refractometer, but I've salted 3 times.

Something from another site. Trout are apparently susceptible to high nitrates if the temp goes up.

Also you need lotsa DO & clean water. I got a refractometer on ebay for $30.

Try not to go chasing readings; on phone so haven't seen whole thread but allow time for changes. And with high temps you might have to resign yourself to losing some.

I lost a 3rd trout yesterday, but so far the rest are all looking good.

Latest readings

pH down to 6.6
Ammonia down to 0.25
Nitrites still up at 5.0
Nitrates at about 40

I guess that patience is the order of the day. Doesn't seem to be much else I can do at the moment

Ammonia 0
Nitrites <.25
Nitrates 0

Temp 15c

Salt 1.5ppt

Are you sure it's rot? Trout becomes canabalistic when not getting enough feed. Post a picture

hi Gabe, sorry I didn't get any photos of the dead ones. Next time. I've got another with similar markings on the tail. Definitely the runt of the pack. Seems to feed last always.

Trout are getting plenty of food now.

Both Ammonia and Nitrites are up a bit today (0.25).

Also, I've planted beans, cucumber and zucchini in the last week, none of the appear to be doing too well. Quite whithered.

Anyone with any ideas?
