I believe thats the way to go. When I'm not fighting the cold I'll be fighting the heat water wise. Makes perfect sense doing it your way. You had such great growth last year looking forward to seeing that again.

Speaking of too cold, it is 0F/-17C here this morning with the wind chill.

I will take a picture of the lettuce sprouts, not sure but I think they are growing slower than the ones in the Summer.

Kind of tired, busy today working on the basement still and then did a couple AP things. I hung the white styrofoam better and made the pieces cover better. I planted Thai basil, some Thai chili peppers (Thai exchange student will know what to make with them) and regular basil and I think a cherry tomato, so I wanted to get the light to the plants as much as possible. I finally made the lid for the sump too. It turned out nice and clean. Used a string to make the circular ends. Measured water parameters, I think the oyster shells are working now as the pH appears to be like 7.2 or so which is very nice. I didn't measure nitrates because I am growing stuff as fast as I can anyway. The lettuce might be edible next week!

The fish are looking good and are always hungry. I want to try taking pictures of them as they looked really nice yesterday - when the siphons aren't draining the still water lets you see them a lot better.

Thanks, there is a lot of evaporation when the water is 83F/28C and the air is 65F/18C, I'm sure this will help it stay in better.

Lettuce is looking great. I'd say you have your lighting at sufficient levels.
