I finally got some trout added (thanks Ballarat Trout Hatchery - what a top place)

Is there anything I should do to my water now they are in?

Yep... hope like hell it stays cool enough until the trout grow... :D

Do I need to do anything about the green algae lining the walls of my fish tank?

It's just come since I added trout last week.

Is your tank an IBC.... you probably need to shield/cover the sides if it is... as the plastic is translucent... and the sunlight and higher nutrient levels resulting in algae...

It's not unusual for a bio-film to build up on the sides of a tank any way... so if the water is still clear... it's not a major problem...

A couple of issues with the trout. 3 disliked my fish tank so much that they jumped out. They had to jump 10cm clear to do so...

I have another that has been acting a bit different since I got him/her. He sits on the surface most of the time, and lazily swims down when I come near. Then slowly floats back up. He also has a white tail, like the flesh has been torn. Possibly damaged in transport?

The first issue is easily fixed with a net, any suggestions on the second?

I lost that trout today. Definitely a case of fin rot. I will salt this weekend.

Also, here are the latest readings...

The latest readings. I have now high ammonia and nitrites.

Is this usual? Do I need to do Nything or just hang in there?

I would also be checking for a dead fish somewhere, just to be safe.

I salted on the weekend to 1ppt. Should I do more or leave it as is?

1ppt will mitigate the nitrites... that is the purpose of the salt. Water change is to assist in both lowering/diluting nitrites and amm. Dont feed, test tomorrow and report. You may need to keep up with the water changes daily till we get a handle on it.

Hi Charlie. My system hasn't 'cycled' yet, so I was thinking I was meant to see nitrites at some point.

Are you saying that this is too much? Happy to follow instructions...

Salt wont lower, or influence the nitrites.. or affect the cycling...

It's just used to mitigate against "nitrite poisoning" that can affect the fish...
