Wicking beds are easy to make with all sorts of pots, tub, boxes etc Martin. And they work really well. Lots of threads on here as well as http://ozgrow.com

So Faye, No problems getting your toms to ripen in winter? Are yours in a hot house or just out in the open?

The winter tomatoes are few and far between Dr Bee though I do get a trickle of the cherry tomatoes. The system has a laserlite roof and the sides have shadecloth blinds. It is not a hothouse environment and our temps have been down to freezing here.

I have probalby 100 cherry toms on my plants. Would be great if they go red. I just have shade mesh over them. Haven't seen freezing down here, although went round to mates to play darts in his shed the other night and his heater ran out of gas. I ended up wrapping my hands around beer cans to warm them up it was that bloody cold. Took about 2 days to warm up after that. Took my innards about 1 day to dry out too!! :drunken:

The winter growth is fantastic and the snow peas just keep on coming. Harvested the first of the passionfruit grown in the system and considering winter hasn't finished here they are quite sweet. The chinese veges look really healthy and thai beef salad is on the menu this week.
Watched a hoverfly that was almost as big as a bee, the largest I have ever seen. Hopefully it will lay some eggs as their larvae, though very small are great parasites.

Great growth Faye. I went and bought some seedlings today but without a system they will all be going into pots. Spring is days away so the seedlings are coming in at night to stay warm. We're having a cold snap so they will be planted out next week. Hopefully they all do well. :-)
