You a busy boy Muz! Great stuff. Would be interested to know more about the colour change of the fillets, why would they be the wrong colour now?

Regards, Martin.

Its not that he's got wrong coloured trout, he's after the orange/pink flesh, this can be obtained by using the 7mm Skrettings which have the beta carotene ingedient

Yeah I didn't think he had the wrong colour trout, I was referring to the fillets. :)

So now looking else where. The Natfish course in Grafton, NSW looks like the next option.

Not sure if it's changed... but while the Natfish course was a remote learning course... it required several 7-10 day attendance blocks...on campus ... per certificate

It was also very pond aquaculture based.. with only a small RAS... and/or hatchery module included... or offered as stand alone modules...

Might have changed since I did it... I'll be meeting up with Lisa and a couple of the other trainers from Natfish in a months time...

I only used the Ridley pellets last year and had Trout flesh that was mainly white as per the photo

Like Charlie said, I'm hoping to get the natural pink colouring

Great, got it. I didn't realise that their fillet/meat colouring is influenced by their feed good to know. Kinda like flamingos I suppose.

Hey Rupert, your correct from what I can see on their website, there is a hatchery component that is 6 days or more. That would suit my FIFO employment.

Exactly MartinC, I used to breed Robins, Wrens and Chats in aviaries. If the birds with red on them didn't get a consistent intake of carotenoids their colours would fade out to a diluted pinkish.

Okay, thanks Muz. This is starting to ring a bell. I remember when I was a kid my older sisters used to breed canaries. They fed them a special diet to make them pink. Don't know what it was though.

It generally takes about 8 weeks for trout flesh to get that nice orange colour once you start feeding the pellets with the carotenoids in them, it takes even longer for Atlantic Salmon. Skretting Spectra 6 & 7mm and Ridleys Trout Grower 6mm all contain the synthetic additives required.

Can you clarify about the Skretting pellets Troutman... this is what I was lead to believe...

The Spectra FF 400 (floating 7mm).... certainly contains the additives.... but the 5mm doesn't...

Spectra SS 100 (sinking)... also contains the additives.... (is this the 6mm you are referring to?)...
