like you muzza, couldn't wait to get outta school(14) to see the wide world.
Got a job as a fibreglass laminator, built boats and boards, until driving to sydney where I found photographic waste(xray films, dental amalgam, silver oxide batt's etc.) had silver which could be recycled. Travelled the eastcoast met heaps of nice crew, came back to WA and got involved in concrete been there ever since, now polishing concrete.
Have 3 daughters and 1 grandson.Trying to become selfsufficent and share knowlege with others and learn from them.

I spent 20 years in the RAAF fixing Hercules and F111 engines before moving into IT as a developer. So now I cut code for an Electricity company - go Broncos - trying to learn enough at TAFE and other places so I can eventually live sustainably.

I have a 300 acre property in SW QLD that I'm just itching to retire to. I look at aquaponics as a means to grow food in areas where the soil is poor but I also realise that water is essential so drought proofing is another area I'm interested in.

cheers

I am a college student, 2 or 3 more years to go. I am majoring in fisheries. When I finish this degree I might go for a masters degree but what I really want to do is go to a third world country and do mission work teaching impoverished people how to grow fish.
I am new to aquaponics and I am hoping to set up a small scale system in my basement.

My basement is so well used my visitors often look therre before knocking the door. I had to dig down an extra foot so I can stand up down there.

We have a nice mix of expertise and experience here now, should be able to solve a myriad of problems with the collective heads. Nice!

this is a really interesting thread. I've really enjoyed reading about people's backgrounds :)

I did an Associate Diploma in Aquatic Resource Management (water quality and aquaculture), then I did a BSc in Environmental Studies.
I was going to do my Honours, but my mum got very sick and I took time off (also didn't like my project...)
This time included a few different jobs, selling sewing machines and craft items, analysing machine oils, lab tech at Reef HQ (coral reef aquarium), zoo keeper (croc wrangler, koala cuddler), environmental officer, safety officer, water quality tester, team leader for Conservation Volunteers Australia, local magazine editor, volunteer coordinator for different organisations....

Also got married, had two children, caught the aquaponics bug.

The current deal with Axl is that when both kids are at school, I'll go back to paid work (two more years). We are classing the set-up of the AP system as my job at home :D

Thanks for reviving this thread Jaymie, I dont think I've seen it before and found it interesting reading.
I started off as a forklift driver/storeman before going to uni and becoming a nurse. After I stint in England I came back to study Mental Health Nursing, and now work as a consultant MHN in a large public hospital emergency department.

I am single, enjoy long walks on the beach and having candle lit dinners........ sorry!!! :)

I currently work in IT at a Secondary College. I have a Diploma of Electronic Engineering under my belt so far. I am at Murdoch UNI completing a Bachelor in Engineering Technology. I will switch to Bachelor of Engineering if I decide to do the AirForce next year. Either way I want to branch out into renewable energy/sustainability.

I started out as an auto mechanic (apprentice), then went on to heavy duty (tractors etc).
Then did a year and 1/2 for telstra in the camping parties working all over w.a.
I worked on a station down south for a couple of years and then came to Kal to work on the mines, did that for awhile and gave it up as a bad joke.
Now I'm a sales rep for Professionals doing all the commercial/industrial/business sales and leasing.
