Hmm have they come to see the trout perhaps? It is raining now so is certainly good weather for ducks.

Not calming at all Charlie, hehe, I've been making up for lost time weeding, mowing, pruning and planting. Got my digger out yesterday and had a play. Getting a shredder later today to mulch the tree, shrub prunings. I do love living here and enjoying the workout, even if my bones set when I sit in the evenings. I hardly leave here most days, even did my food shop online so I don't have to go anywhere.

Hey Ryan, I love it. :love4: We had visitors here yesterday from Esperance and they had never seen or heard about anything like this. I think they were impressed. Anyway I sent them off with magazines and a brochure and just have a feeling that Steve (in particular) just may get here before too long. You know that twinkle that people get in their eye when the cogs start turning over in their head, most of you probably know what I'm talking about, yeah?

As I am getting far more serious about making this property pay for itself I am streamlining some of the processes and working out what I really need to produce to keep us fed. I have lots of trout in the freezer from last harvest so I am thinking that I may sell off some off the trout that I have swimming here now. At present I have around 75 which is a lot when the time comes to process. I could drop my numbers to 50 and still have heaps to keep the system going. I will post an update when I decide, the other thought too is that it would help someone else get started when trout are not easily available.
Rabbit breeding is on again and Patsy went for a congigal visit to McCarthy Park so we expect babies in 4 weeks. Can't wait, there is heaps of feed around here right now in the way of winter weeds and they enjoyed a treat of apricot tree prunings to sharpen their teeth. Brad pigg doesn't look so miniature now and the chooks are producing well, I've been getting lots of sponge cake practice too.

Your place is looking great, Faye, especially considering we are in the depths of winter.

That sounds like something I'll have to try! There are millions of nettles all over my place after all the June rain. If only the pine nut trees would start producing some nuts...

Lovely system and space Faye. Impressive animal list, some photos would be appreciated.

Are the rabbits part of the food plan? My friend calls his rabbits "Pot" and "Stew". :)

Thanks Martin and Keith, there are some more diverse shots of my garden on the Backyard Farming forum and a link in my signature line. So wet and wild here today but I managed to have a play in the covered area for my ap system. What a good idea that was to build. I wanted to be able to garden all year round and while it poured with rain I trimmed up and harvested some rabbit food and a few goodies for tonights dinner. The silverbeet is going off in a good way and was inspiration for some colour therapy. Yes the rabbit babies are for food Martin, we are hoping Patsy is pregnant after a trip to Mccarthy Park, home to the Peasants. They bred my girls  The fish are jumping for joy with the cool weather and for food naturally.
The bottom row is from the dirt garden.

Wow Faye, that's stunning scrumptious food. I am in limbo without a system as we're emigrating so anything I do will have to be left behind. I have decided though to do some soil planting and veggie growing this spring even without an AP system as it looks like we will only move next year. I need to start learning how to plant seedlings and start seeds and grow veggies anyway so why wait? You have inspired me Faye (along with some others like Rupe, Mantis and Charlie (don't tell him I said that) and a few others).

Regards, Martin.

Just jump straight in Martin. Pots can be a good place to start or even polystyrene boxes and lined crates. Here is the first quiche out of the oven and the house is smelling good and feeling warm.

Yip, I will be growing in pots. I also want to grow some potato bags to learn more.
