Update,

Two fish barely clinging on, they are nearly white over, is there any treatment that i can buy for them which is safe with plants?

Cycle has progressed a little

Sometimes you have to be cruel to be kind Lloyd. I would get them out and turn them into compost. And then get back on the horse.

Hi Faye, I was thinking of doing that and picking up some trout maybe tomorrow, somehow I don't like the idea of fish less cycling now I'm halfway there.

But is the infection likely to have infected the water and will the new fish likely just become quickly infected.

The infection is like a white fluffy slime all over the fish, it hangs off in places

System should be roughly at 6ppt as I added just over 9kg of salt in total

Thanks again all for the support

Lloyd

White fluffy slime is what the frogs that died in my FT had on them before I removed them a month or so ago, as did a dead spider I noticed floating around half way down the other day. No sign of it on my fish yet.

I'm no good with fish disease, Lloyd, but some photos might help with the identification, I'm sure someone will know though.

I added in 11 trout on sunday, just couldn't go back to not having fish.

Then did something stupid and forgot to plug back in the aerator, only noticed this evening after thinking the fish weren't as active as they had been on sunday

No deaths from the trout but it was enough to finish off the last two diseased perch (picture attached)

Took some water measurements today and introducing the trout has caused a big ammonia spike, still waiting for the Nitrates to show up but I know this might take longer

Ammonia - 2.0ppm
Nitrite - 1.0ppm
Nitrate - 0ppm

I'll hold off on the feed for a few days but should I be taking any other action i.e. partial water change?

Also how long can the trout go without feeding without affecting their health?

Hold off on feed until ammonia AND nitrite are 0 (0.25 is acceptable)

Yes. And even when it is 0 (or very close) only lightly feed as your system will still be building it's bacteria colony.

Looking much better. Just need to get nitrite down before feeding.

When you do begin feeding start off lightly.

Its been a while posting, so much going on at home, I will get some pictures up tomorrow. Just a quick note to say despite a troublesome and unsuccessful start with the silver perch, things went much better with the trout.

The system cycled very quickly after introducing the trout, they all survived and are very healthy, they are eating a growing very quickly, look like they are already big enough to harvest. The plants have also grown well and I've harvested lots of lettuce and kale.

Brocolli is getting big as is the Fennel

Spinach seems to be struggling a bit though with yellow limp leaves around the outside, also water is quite dirty with lots of solids floating around

Thanks for all the help :thumbleft:
