So got the rest of the media in stage 2 during the week, it full of water no leaks so happy days, hopefully if work is kind to me this lovely Friday i will get it plumbed up and fired up by this afternoon.

Hi Guys, fish feeding question, i start work at 430am so too early for me to feed fish in morning, my wife can feed in morning but more than likely she would just dump and run.
So can i successfully get away with 1 feed a day?
If feeding once a day does it disrupt them to feed them twice when i am around such as weekends?
Due to new system should i be holding them back a bit on feed or just feed as they demand?

At the moment I feed once every two days in the evening. If the tank temperature stays above 18 c will give small feed in afternoon and see how much they eat. So you will have no problems just feeding in the evenings, if tank temp below 18 c you may as well forget it.

Ok thanks, my tank temp from memory was around 16 degrees but will re-check today, but the fish are feeding really well??
Will start measuring feed also.
I assume you are suggesting the fish wont want to feed in the low temp?? or are you saying to not feed for the systems sake??

Id err on the side of caution this early on with feed anyways. Once a day is fine, once every few days is fine, I only feed lightly once a day at the moment because Im aiming for leaner trout this season.

If they are eating then keep feed but only in the evening will do. This way you can check how much they are eating. You them as small amount and check back in ten minutes. If gone give them some more, this way you know how much they are eating. Normally they will eat less during colder weather.

Are you using floating or sinking pellets and what size?

Using 2mm floating, i fed this arvo and they ate heaps less than yesterday, i had to go back 40 min later and scoop it off the surface.
They didnt eat the day i put them in so i am guessing they were hungry the next day and now they are topped up so to speak.

Thanks guys for the feed back, i a,m pretty happy with how it is all coming along. Dint get much of the plumbing done today as too many interruptions so will have to finnish tomorrow and fire up.
Will post some pic tomorrow when running.

Give them a smaller feed tomorrow and see how much they eat. If not much cut it back to the small amount every two days.

small amounts - watch and listen - put a cover over and they might be a little less scared.

Mine will not eat if I have the tank open, Jades and silvers.

Yeah i noticed they were a little shy, they fed well when i stood back and when i quietly get closer they were ok. But i will try putting the cover on tomorrow to see if that makes a difference. Yesterday when they fed well it was on dusk, this arvo was earlier and bright and sunny.

Yes Jades and i have 80 in the tank to be split in half in 2 weeks when 2nd system has cycled unless i decide to cycle with fish.

If you've got the fish... and the second system... then you might as well split them... especially if they're feeding lightly...

Hi peeps, so if i cycle with fish do i or can i add seasol for the plants??
Thinking of throwing 20 in stage 2 until cycled then send the other 20 over.

So had some progress today, got stage 2 plumbed in and running
Will plant out stage 2 tomorrow morn and start the waiting game yet again lol.

Seasol doesn't affect ammonia levels and is safe for fish and good for plants.
