Well there are big aquariums that does not have frames etc but they do have some glass braces put into the top so the long front and back glass wont bend out to much.

Seen a 1000L full glass aquarium with no frames or stuff but it was quite low height only 40cm. From what i have heard it is when you increase the water height/depth of an aquarium you need to have frames and braces, since the water pressure will raise quickly when adding to the height/depth of water in the aquarium.
