The reason that plugs are different sizes is because of how people think.

"We're better than those people over there so we will create our own plug size and shape and it will be better than theirs." Despite the fact that it does exactly the same thing! :dontknow:

That is why we South Africans are far superior to you Aussies! :headbang:

:D

Couple of other pics I took today. The chard is looking healthy in the DWC but its struggling compared to the one I planted at the same time in the dirt garden. Also my beans are starting to flower but they should be a lot bigger this time of year.

Fermented beetroot - grate into a bowl, sprinkle salt and TANK water, squish into a jar (3/4 full), push down so water covers, put a lid on, leave on the bench for 1-2 weeks, refrigerate for 2 more weeks.

Yeah well.... that would be interesting - I get a mouthful nearly feeding my trout.

Hey charlie do you pick the stuff in the DWC all at once i.e. a lettuce - or do you pick leaves?

I put my beets in a pot, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil and dust with salt and pepper. Bake in oven at 180deg for about a 1.5 hours (depending on size). Let them cool and then use a paper towel to peel the skin off. Cut, grate chop, slice... whatever you want. Tastes fantastic and sweet because it brings out the flavours.

@Jay - yea I pick at the DWC as much as I can. We got a few peas, a few Kahl rabi, heaps of lettuce obviously. I harvested all the chinese cabbage at once because it started showing signs of bitterness so Id say I left it a little too long. It still goes well in stir fry's etc. The kale got smashed by aphids so it came out and the chard is looking healthy but not growing very fast.

Took some more pics of the GB's today. Growth is slow but Im liking the range we have going at the moment, we have some beans, coriander, chard, silver beet, kahl rabi, cauliflower, onion, garlic, artichoke, nectarine and the pineapple and capsicum have survived the winter.

And how strange is this? After harvesting the last chinese cabbage from the DWC I noticed this little fella tangled in the roots inside the net pot. How the crap did it get there?

Does anyone know if I should manually pollinate the nectarine tree?

My oldies never had too... There are always bees around though.

Are you planning to keep it trimmed really short? They can get to be a big tree eventually :)

Its a dwarf variety, Ry-man, so should stay fairly.. dwarfy like.

I dont have too many bees hanging around. Hmmm, might do a bit of googling.

Cheers mate.
