Hello all, I'm new to the forum and aquaculture and live in the Beaumont area. Are there any others close? I would like to be able to look at an operating system. My initial goal is to create a hobby system large enough to provide for my family and others. I would also like to explore a small commercial farm in the future.

I am about 2 hours north of Houston and hoping to have my large in ground system finished this summer. It is running but only with 2 grow beds right now. Will have atleast 30 grow beds when complete.

I am in east texas. 3 hours N of houston and 2 hours south east of Dallas. I am still in the planning phase. Saving to build the fish shed and green house. I already have my ibc totes. I plan to raise Talapia. Will take me a couple of months to save up for everything.

Just starting out, count another one from North Texas. McKinney, TX to be exact. Starting out my test mini setup and already bought some totes. Im guessing wont be operational until the fall or maybe spring. When I have something worth showing I will start a system thread.

I have not used this Google Drive link business before, so hopefully the pictures will appear. It does work on the preview.

I have yet to get cycled but am showing some small amounts of Nitrites at this stage. I was further along but somehow lost my progress and was forced to start again. I have a better idea of what I need to do this time so I think it will go ok.

I will be adding a small raft system or something of that nature to grow my fall crop of lettuce, spinach, kale and broccoli. It will be directly over the sump. The system was designed to fit inside of a 10 x 12 greenhouse, though I am not sure I will actually build it. The temperature here will likely call more for shading than heat. I think I will be installing a shade cover over the entire area. I should have that done is the next week or so. I have reached the age where I no longer get in a hurry.

I know I need to cool it down before I add the fish as water temps run in the high 80's to mid 90's. I think the shade should help that some, but there is little I can do about the overall high temps in the summertime.

I live on the edge of Keller and Fort Worth close to Texas Motor Speedway, but unfortunatly I do not have my system up and running yet. I have a very small "proof of concept" system running with no plants, but I am still gathering material for my larger system. I should be working on it very soon though so if your interested to see it during or immediatly have the build just let me know.

I'm from Amarillo too. I've just been looking at putting a small system together and I'm getting close to trying it. I've seen one other person on here so far from Amarillo. Are there others?

I'm in North Texas, McKinney area. I've got a pretty standard tote FT, tote GB system. Used to have a flush tank going to the grow bed but I found it provided for system vulnerability more than anything.

I am ready to build a small commercial system. So many options really.. I already have a pile of barrels for building a 8-10 barrel system but have considered changing methods. I have found a solid way to balance out the water and account for overages and such but PVC ain't cheap. IBC grow beds are basically $50 a piece.. maybe the way to go it seems.

Anyone that has opinions on Texas greenhouse covers, I've got a 20x12 hoophouse that I want to prepare for winter and next summer. North Texas - it's got to be shady for summer, pretty good for some cold weather and extremely wind resistant.

Well ok. There's not much to show. I must explain before I share my embarrassment ;>)

.. the flattest part of my yard is the lowest (close to the house, anyway)
.. I dug a hole for my IBC FT and did not reinforce the walls except with the cage (this works fine until it rains)
.. I built up a brim around it to keep water out of between the plastic and the ground. This helped but the damage is done. (but it's unreliable imo)
.. the "damage" is the IBC experienced several mudslides under it, lifting it. Now the IBC plastic pushes with immense force against an IBC gravel bed which pushes with immense force... The plastic is bent in several places.
Lesson: I would not put an IBC in the ground again.

What I'm growing: 6 different heirloom tomatoes and nicotiana. I thought nicotiana would be like some marigolds, since it's dominant active chemical compound is pretty toxic. It turns out.. well no,.. at least not for grasshoppers!! They love tobacco!

I am due for a hard redesign but I plan for the system to be a bit bigger.
