Alot of you Aussies might of known about this but I just learned about it check it out very cool

http://www.gizmag.com/airdrop-wins-jame ... ard/20471/

So all you people that are tech savy and good at building things who wants to try and build a simple one for back yard use?

I would love to build one for my back yard but would need some type of video tutorial to follow to be able to do this

so the challenge is building with as little of building materials as simple as possible and for as cheap as possible

That would be very nice but a bit out of my league as far as me building one. I would also like to see a step by step video!

Nice design, although I am not sure I would describe it as 'low tech' - unless they mean 'without a computer' or 'no electroics' :D

You can produce around a litre a day far more simply than this device - dig a nice deep hole, place a bottle/pan in the bottom centre of it, the spread a black plastic (any will do but black would work best) over the hole, wiehging it down at the sides so it is stretched fairly tight over the hole. Put a small rock (or a handful of the dirt) in the centre od the plastic so it is over the bottle/pan - it will indent the plastic to a funnel shape. Then wait a while.

The sophisticated version has a tube from the pan to the side of the plastic so you can suck up the water without having to lift the plastic.

Another question I would have about the device shown is the 'reacts with copper' bit - copper in water tends not to do good things to kidneys and livers.

do you want it to irrigate underground like that system or just pull water out of humid air and then use the water in some other way?
The piping that guy is using is also filled with a copper mesh/sponge to increase surface area and slow flow?? not sure how to do that at home... maybe it would be easier to upscale his idea to a pipe size that you could stuff some type of plastic sponge material into (perhaps like the stuff the zip grow tower people use).
